I wonder how many wrong guessers for #8 chose "It's a totally made up word" for the fun of it.

I only knew it wasn't an interrobang! But upon further reflection, it does seem kind of weird that I know what the symbol *means*, but had never in my life heard or even thought of what it might be called.

14/16=87.5

That beats 97.8% of other users.

Your statistics are incorrect.

I also got 14/16

JetPunk says 14/16=88% which is incorrect.

14/16=.875 x100 87.5

I have beaten 97.8 % of the test takers. (This is according to JetPunk and I am too lazy to calculate it but 182,861 test taken and 9/16 is average score and since JetPunk failed grade 6 or lower math, I can't rely on it too much.)

I think you meant you beat 98.6%.

You took this quiz in 2022 so by now more people have taken this quiz and have gotten better scores so now it is 97.8% instead of 98.6%

14/16 beats 97.8% (or at your time 98.6%) f users is a better way of writing because 14/16 = 87.5%. That is a b+ on letter grade.

Overall, good job on the quiz

Yes you beat 98.6% of the quiz takes which means you landed a score of 14/16 but 14/16 is 87.5%

I was taught that there is dispute about whether the panda is a bear or raccoon, but the internet says that dispute has been settled in favor of the bear. I also thought an inner bull's eye was worth 100, but apparently I was wrong about that too. It's only 50.

Of course it's not a raccoon. Look at it.
+2
Level 67
May 4, 2022
Look at the red panda. It looks more like a raccoon than a bear. And besides, looking at things is not really a great scientific approach.
+1
Level 71

Red pandas aren't really pandas though.

Wikipedia: "The red panda's place on the evolutionary tree has been debated, but modern genetic evidence places it in close affinity with raccoons, weasels and skunks. It is not closely related to the giant panda, which is a bear, though both possess elongated wrist bones or 'false thumbs' used for grasping bamboo."

I know. I was just pointing out that "look at it" is a bad approach. And it was fairly recently settled that even the giant panda is a bear. It also has characteristics of a raccoon, so there was debate in the scientific community about how to classify it. Obviously, its size and shape say "bear," but its teeth, snout, and grip are closer to those of the raccoon. I think it was on the basis of DNA coding that it was determined the panda is truly a bear. That's pretty much the opposite of "just look at it."

I spent years of my childhood telling people that pandas are not bears, as I learnt that they were definitively part of the raccoon family. I've got some words to have with the encyclopedia that decided to phrase it as that rather than saying it was under dispute, and I'd better hope nobody remembers and calls me out on it! When did they find out they are actually bears?
+1
Level 77

I'm pretty sure that it's still entirely arbitrary based on human perception. I don't think they're running around and cataloguing the genetic code of species to determine the correct lineage of species.
+1
Level 75
May 5, 2022
There's probably not a lot of running involved, but species do get reclassified when better (i.e. genetic) information makes clear that such a change is appropriate.

"24 Blackbirds Baked in a Pie"

Level 76
Aug 25, 2021
Sing a song of sixpence,

A pocket full of rye.

Four and twenty blackbirds,

baked in a pie.

When the pie was opened

The birds began to sing;

Wasn't that a dainty dish,

To set before the king.

The king was in his counting house,

Counting out his money;

The queen was in the parlor,

Eating bread and honey.

The maid was in the garden,

Hanging out the clothes,

When down came a blackbird

And pecked off her nose.

And shortly after that,

there came a little wren,

As she sat upon a chair,

and put it on again.
