Sorry, dad. I tried again and went until the time ran out. I got Gloria Estefan and somehow remembered the name of the guy who did the cover of the song from Aladdin (Peabo Bryson), but missed Whitney Houston and got my boy bands mixed up so typed in Backstreet Boys instead of New Kids on the Block. oh well.

I got 72/98. The late-90s stuff was a breeze; the early-90s stuff was much harder for me.

Also - Tommy Page?! As in, the cheesy dude who came to Stephanie's birthday party on "Full House"? Was he a real performer? Oh lord.

Billboard charts are weird that way. A lot of pop stuff that nobody remembers 2 years after it comes out hits #1, and a lot of classic stuff that endures for decades either never charts at all, or doesn't reach the top.

There was a lot of good music coming out in the 90s but almost none of it is here. Nine Inch Nails. Nirvana. A Perfect Circle. Pearl Jam. Soundgarden. Bush. Metallica. Massive Attack. Weird Al.

The early 90's in particular was a weird time for pop. New Wave was falling out of the mainstream and Michael Jackson was cooling off, but it's like pop culture didn't quite know what to replace them with for a couple years there. Maybe that's why so many big hits from like 1991-1995 were one-hit wonders.

Something I admire about the '90s is how diverse the music was. You had grunge, Britpop, indie rock, the last remnants of new wave, electronic, R&B, hip hop, metal... I know not all of those genres are reflected on this quiz, but still--I feel like it's fair to say all those were mainstream, and there was something for everyone. I dont hate modern mainstream pop, but it definitely feels much more generic and monolithic.
