That was interesting. Particularly liked the "both" option. Seems that it's the hardest part.

I thought the geographic center of Europe was located in Lithuania but I now see that several countries claim it depending how it is measured.

First time I hear it's in Slovakia. Lithuania or Belarus usually.

That question should probably be removed. I've heard of about 5 countries being called the geographic center of Europe, as well

Feb 16, 2019
According to Wikipedia, the geographical midpoint of Europe is either on an island in Estonia, central Slovakia, or western Ukraine. Whichever one you think is correct based on Europe’s borders, Slovakia is the only option on this quiz that makes sense, so this question should not be confusing. Anyways, the geographical midpoint question received an accuracy over 80% so that doesn’t seem to be a problem

Very nice quiz. Could I perhaps suggest that two question be formulated somewhat more appropriately?

a) Slovenia would be better described as having access to sea than as lying on the coast, since its Adriatic coast is just slightly over 40 km long and most of the country is landlocked.

b) Could you change the order of the colours on the two countries' flags to blue, red and white, since this is the actual order in which they occur on both of them? I know this is nittpicking, but I suspect those who know it will be pleased.

Thank you!

You missed as well :)

The quiz says "red, white, and blue" (Croatia, Netherlands, Luxembourg)

You say "blue, red and white" (Yugoslavia, or France vertically)

But in reality it's "white, blue and red" (Slovenia, Russia, Slovakia)

...or "red, blue and white" if you start from the wrong side (also Serbia)

The Yugoslavian and the French flag are both "blue, white and red", not "blue, red and white".

I knew that Slovenia had ports and Slovakia is landlocked. "Is on the coast" could be replaced with "has a coast" or "is not landlocked". I would to agree with you on this and it looks like "Is on the coast" is a description a realtor would come up with to describe Slovenia (plus add in fine sandy beaches with sunsets to just die for) as 40 km of coastline is 40 km of coastline, never mind the fact that the overwhelming majority of the country is some distance away from the coast. And yes I wanted to buy own house after the realtor listed it.

I can't believe I got two wrong. I spent time in Slovakia as an exchange student, and I thought it would be a breeze. I knew the birthrate thing about Slovakia, I didn't realize that it was more than a quarter forest.

I'm also a bit ashamed that I never questioned the claim of it being the geographical centre of Europe, I'm very disappointed with myself.

That is just incorrect. Czechoslovakia split into two countries in 1992/1993. Slovakia is a souvereign state since 1st Jan 1993.

Looks like Slovenia has got all the way up to 1.59, although Slovakia remains at 1.44:
