Indiana Jones Countries Visited Map
An archaeological dig has discovered this old map from the 1930s charting the travels of an "Indiana" Jones. Can you name the countries, territories or regions that he appears to have visited on his adventures?
One location for each dot, X or loop of a color. Some locations are shared
Narrative locations, not filming locations. Includes layovers and visits mentioned in dialogue
Agreed! Also, there were some things that I don't remember at all, like the Philippines, India (during the first movie, obviously it was the focal point of the second), Honduras, Madagascar, and the Azores. I'm guessing all of those are the "layovers" you referred to?
Yes, the solid lines are all journeys that are actually shown on a map in the films like here, which shows the layover in the Philippines (and another one which I missed and has now been added!)
The dotted lines are journeys we don't see so can't be exactly sure if he stopped in other locations along the way.
Locations unconnected to a line like Honduras and Madagascar are countries mentioned in dialogue, like here.
What a great map! Brilliant work here dude! Including countries only mentioned is maybe my only source of complaint when taking this awesome quiz of yours ^^
Thanks! Just to be clear, I haven't included every country mentioned in dialogue, but only countries that Indy says he has actually been to. I put that in the caveat but realise now that the stickied comment isn't clear. Will update it :)
Great! I enjoy the Indiana Jones movies thoroughly, the action in those films is something that is difficult to replicate. Perhaps you could do a similar thing for different movie franchises?
That's a great idea. What franchises do you think would fit this format? James Bond seems to be the obvious chice, even though it would be rather tedious work to go through them all. What else?
Awesome quiz! I love how you used Jiaozira's quiz and completely changed the style. The map looks pretty realistic for being digital. Overall a great quiz and I'll nominate (tomorrow)
I tried Iskanderun on a whim and I'm so glad I did! Would 'Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan' work? Also great quiz and I'm greatly looking forward to seeing this featured; nominated!
Fun quiz. Traveling via drawn line, as portrayed in these movies, always seemed like the way to do it.
I once made a photo album on Facebook with this theme. When I was living overseas my mom would come over to visit various places and we'd travel somewhere together. The first time she came over we drove through Jordan on our way to Egypt. On a subsequent trip we went to India where we visited Amber Fort (inspiration for the Temple of Doom). Later I'd be back in Jordan and visit Petra alone (the obvious real location of the holy grail; in the movies they get to it from Alexandretta in the short-lived Hatay State (now Hatay Province of Turkey)). The only major location we had left to cover was Machu Picchu from Crystal Skull so I photoshopped us and some South Park aliens into some pictures from Peru and made the album.
Dotted lines are journeys we don't see so don't know if or where he stopped along the way.
Locations unconnected to a line are countries that Indy confirms he has been to in dialogue, like here.
The quiz is very interesting, but, most important, the map is a masterpiece! You are a real artist. Thanks for this quiz (nominated, of course)!
