If you're in the Wilmington, Delaware area, I recommend visiting the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard which works to preserve the history of the Swedish Colony. They have a full-size reconstruction of the Kalmar Nyckel, one of the tall ships that brought the colonists to the area in four separate voyages, the first in 1638. When not in port, they sail on "goodwill tours" around the world.

All 3 are correct for who came after John Adams as President. 1963 was after 1799 by any measure. Who immediately came after or succeeded John (no Q.) Adams as President?

Sorry to be be a pedantic d.b. on JetPunk, but that's open ended. Whoever wins in 2024 will be after John Adams.

I would usually agree with you regarding common sense, but at first I thought it was a trick question because of the ambiguitiy. I agree that the word "immediately" would help.

John Adams is the second president so it would be impossible to have only one answer if it was not immediately after, but just anyone after Adams.

My eighth grade history teacher told us that he started being more careful in wording quiz questions after one of his students answered the question "Can you describe the terms of the Versailles treaty" by writing "Yes."

If the Constitutional Convention had been held in Vegas, I would imagine the Constitution would have ended up being a very different document indeed . . .

But the current administration would have fit it much better.

The one I didn't know I guessed the group that I didn't remember hearing of before, assuming that if they were celibate they wouldn't have been around for very long. That was the right answer.

Celibacy will do that to a group

#7 could be written better. Juneteenth commerates the date that news of emancipation first made its way to Texas.

It wasn't really "news." Everyone knew the Union had abolished slavery long before then. It was when the Union troops made it to Galveston and liberated the slaves there.
+2
Level 68
Dec 18, 2023
That is not correct. The slaves in Texas did not know about the Emancipation Proclamation until Juneteenth, when notice of it reached Texas. No, "everyone" did not know about it before then. And Union troops had been in Galveston during the Civil War long before the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

The Shakers had a large community in my hometown back in the day. Some of their buildings still remain and there is a monument to their memory. Most of their land was used in the current era to construct three prisons and a Lego manufacturing facility.
