Plus the fact that Providence has the highest percentage of population to universities....or so I've heard. It's jammed packed with students.

I was taught in school that the nickname for Rhode Island was "Little Rhody". When I saw the clue I assumed it had something to do with the ocean, but never even thought to try just "ocean".

My APUSH teacher used to call it "Rogue Island," in part because it was the last original state to sign the Constitution and because it had a history of not listening to other states. I'm not sure if that's something others have said, or if he made it up himself.

This was super easy since I live in RI! There should be a question about the Big Blue Bug or coffee milk, but besides that I loved this quiz :-)

Sorry, "Rhode Island" is now (or will very soon be) the complete official name of the state. With all of today's "wokeness", the governor didn't want the word "Plantations" in the state's name, and signed an executive order to that effect.

Very few people in the USA knew about the official name and many of the people that did know were not offended by the word plantation.

Doesn't matter -- the state government has taken the action, and the quiz should reflect that. (Unless we're back in Nur-Sultan denial territory :) )

The official name has not been changed yet. Governors can't just issue an executive order to change the name of a state. It will be voted on this November.

All hail Nursultan!

The voters have approved the change, so the quiz should reflect that. Source: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/rhode-island-voters-drop-providence-plantations-state-name-n1246501

Which I considered one of the truly dumbest examples of wokeness....that is until USC suspended a professor for using a Chinese word in a lecture on business etiquette that sounds like a racial epithet in English. I expect next week, something even dumber will top that...

Before the USA was even a country, in 1652, Rhode Island outlawed slavery. So the reference to plantations has nothing to do with it (its simply an archaic term for "colony"), but gotta erase anything that might be remotely triggering for somebody. (Not to mention that they apparently voted on this in 2010 and more than 3/4 voted to keep the name as is.)

You can't buy steak and a lobster tail in Rhode Island. You will have to buy the whole lobster. It's some weird Rhode Island law.
