I disagree. This quiz is about the name of the singer as known in popular culture, i.e. their stage name. If Lydon is accepted for Rotten then Paul Hewson should also be accepted for Bono and William Bailey for Axl Rose.
Sorry, but that's not correct. Johnny Rotten has been known/credited for several years as Lydon, even if it was more PiL than Pistols (and if I'm not mistaken, due to a legal dispute with M McLaren over who owned the name Rotten). Bono is probably only known as Paul to his mum
Sid was the basist... and not the original one. He replace Glen Matlock in '77. He was the most historically infamous (thanks to NANCY!), but not the front man.
He did sing on a couple of tracks, granted, but the question asks for the most famous lead singer. He may be famous, or infamous, but not as the lead singer.
I'm surprised Yorke is so low. Radiohead is one of the most popular bands in the world. But I suppose they don't create much media buzz outside of their music; no scandals, crazy relationships, things like that to make people recognize the name.
Radiohead is one of the most popular bands in the world? Really? Maybe at one time they were decent at best. You are right though, they certainly aren't in the news for being whackjobs.
I'm not surprised at all. He was one of five I missed. Couldn't come up with Garbage or 2nd Van Halen, both of which I knew but could not get my brain to work at the time. The Clash rings a bell but never would have gotten it. Radiohead? Coldplay? These fall into the category of 'British bands I have heard of but I could not name a song or band member'.
Radiohead is worshiped among big-time audiophiles, but they do not have the mass appeal of most of the bands on this list (I think probably only Garbage and Hole are less famous). Their commercial peak was 20 years ago, and as you rightly point out, Thom Yorke has avoided the spotlight.
I was gonna say the were big around 2000, then I saw your comment and thought I'd react to that. And so, no not 20 years ago, but around 2000. Then I realised Damn! That IS about 20 years ago.... man I feel old now...
Haha. They are by far the least-known band on this quiz. They were moderately successful in the 90s, but Courtney Love is probably more famous for her ridiculous behavior, her marriage to Kurt Cobain, and even her acting by this point. She is much more famous than the band is.
It's so annoying you accept 'York' for his surname, as I'm typing the next name without realising the 'e' is still on the screen. People should be able to correctly spell the names or get the question wrong IMO.
Of course the REAL names should be accepted.
Why?
