Amber is a gemstone, but it is actually not a rock or a mineral. "A mineral is a naturally occurring chemical compound, usually of crystalline form and abiogenic in origin (not produced by life processes)." Amber is produced biologically; it's an organic compound. "A rock is an aggregate of one or more minerals or mineraloids." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineral

Great quiz! As I rock and mineral collector I enjoyed this though I got Alexandrite wrong! Glad you put in the metals too! Hope you do another quiz like this... maybe a birthstone picture quiz or gems and metals from the bible quiz...

Cat's eye is another another gem (chrysoberyl) or simply the phenomonem of light reflecting in certain stones with a certain cut.

No. Iron sulfide would be OK but the iron in your suggestion is redundant.

I’m not saying that you should require it be typed in as such, but you might want to specify that’s snowflake obsidian in the picture (the way you only require “garnet” to get its question right, but specify it’s andradite garnet in the answer). #themoreyouknow

Awesome quiz! I’m a rock hound and a jewelry maker so it was easy for me, but I think it was perfect for the average JetPunk quizzer (who is very smart!). Great image selections, too!

Some considerations:

- amber and opal are not minerals nor rocks

- amethyst, rubi, sapphire and emerald are not minerals but varieties of quartz (amethyst), corundum (rubi and sapphire) and beryl (emerald)
