Since I know there's gonna be at least one person who's gonna wanna say it: Australia is both a country AND a continent. This has been a public service announcement from bebn123.

No, Australia is the NAME of both a country and a continent. The continent, according to Wikipedia, includes Tasmania, New Guinea, Seram, (possibly?) Timor, neighbouring islands and, of course, Mainland Australia. Mainland Australia is not a continent by itself.

You implied it because the satellite photo was just of the country.

Yep, Tasmania can be part of the continent cause we sure as hell dont want them as part of the country

Technically, the continent Australia is on is called Australasia and Oceania. It includes most of of the pacific islands( Kiribati, Nauru, etc.)

That would be the region it is in, not the continent, if being technical is your thing.

Oceania is the name of the continent, which includes a big island called Australia (also the name of the country) and lots of others including all the island nations (Tuvalu, Kiribati etc. etc.) and another large island called New Guinea, which houses three countries.... Papua New Guinea, part of Indonesia and a small oily country called Brunei. New Zealand is also included in Oceania... although maybe not for long as there is debate as to weather or not it should belong to the newly-classified continent called Zealandia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceania

There is no set definition for a continent. The term has no boundaries and is very hard to actually define. But Oceania/Australasia are not continents, they are regions often called continents for administrative ease. There is the continent of Greater Australia which includes Australia (the country), the island of New Guinea and a few other islands, such as Tasmania. Indonesia is located, primarily on the continent of Asia, though there is debate as to where that ends. New Zealand is on its own continent, Zealandia, and if you refer to continents as the continental plates, then Fiji would be its own continent too.

Very easy. Though some of these could have multiple right answers it's usually obvious what you're going for. Only one that's a bit iffy I'd say is Michigan.. the picture is more centered on Lake Michigan than the state of Michigan, and there's almost as much of Wisconsin in frame.

Pretty sure they did that so the entirety of the Upper Peninsula was included in the picture.

The entire state of Michigan is in the picture, only a small piece of Wisconsin is in frame. It asks for a 'State', not a lake.

And if it did ask for a lake (or you thought it did), Michigan might just give the correct answer anyway

Iffy in what way? Only part of Wisconsin is on the far left of the view, while the entire state of Michigan is showing and is centered, just like the answer to every other square in the quiz.

reply

(48)
"All"? There are three answers in the USA (Michigan, Washington, and San Francisco). Baja California is part of Mexico; the Black Sea and the Red Sea are just northwest and southwest (respectively) of the Middle East; Tibet/Himalayas is a region in Asia. Maybe you are also referring to the Gulf of Mexico, which borders the US? But it also borders Mexico and various Caribbean nations. (All the ones I didn't mention are sovereign countries, by the way.)

Michigan should be easy because of its distinctive shapes - the lower peninsula looks like a mitten and the U.P. (land of the yoopers) looks like the back end of a dog jumping into Wisconsin. (See the tail, bottom, and hind leg?)

I just had a big duh moment. I recognized exactly where the Red Sea was, but didn't know what it was called. As soon I saw the name, I realized duh, what sea is between Egypt and Israel that the Israelites would have passed through? Knew my Bible stories and geography, but couldn't put them together, apparently.

I would guess about 90% of that eastern coast of the red sea is Saudi-Arabia, some of it is Yemen and Jordan, but Israel probably does not account for more than 1%. On the west coast there is also Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia. So saying the read sea is between Egypt and Israel is kind of like saying "the Mediterranean is that sea between Libya and Monaco".
