Denmark, Norway and Sweden are the only countries considered Scandinavian. Finland, Iceland and the Scandinavian Countries are Nordic. Sometimes Estonia, Greenland and The Faroe Islands are also considered Nordic, it depends on who you ask. :)
Geographically Finland does not belong to Scandinavia. In the political sense we're sometimes said to belong but a better wording in that sense is "the Nordic Countries", which contain also Denmark and Iceland.
Correct term is fennoscandia if you want to include Finland, but that leaves Denmark out which is scandinavian. Nordic countries is the best word to use as it covers the whole area.
I don't get how this is supposed to be hard. I got 17/17 3 minutes to spare. I won the National geographic bee in Washington dc. I know all this stuff. Make some harder quizzes like this quizmaster.
If you’re an expert in the subject it’s not surprising you don’t find it hard. It’s surprising an expert would find that worth mentioning though. There’s this Facebook group called “guess the city” where they guess satellite images of cities and it’s much harder than this. You might be happier there.
could you also add anything that contains 'channel', 'dover' and 'calais' as possible good answers? The name for this channel is quite different from country to country you live in :)
Malvinas should be accepted. The islands are so referred in many atlas, not to mention the fact that they are in fact located in the argentine continental platform. Great quiz though!
Thanks for these quizzes, Quizmaster. They inspire me to stop and learn more about the places I didn't know anything about, such as Great Bear Lake and the Kamchatka peninsula. A fun way to increase my geography knowledge.
It's not that Haiti and Hispaniola are synonymous, it's that Haiti is incorrect. Haiti is only half of the island. The other half is the Dominican Republic.
I did well surprisingly. I got 15/17 on first try. Ones I didn’t get though were Great Bear Lake and...*facepalms*..Scandinavia..why didn’t I think of Scandinavia?
is it worth a caveat on this series saying that all the satellite images are oriented correctly (ie north is upwards)? i was stuck on a few and wondered if you’d been tricksy and rotated them
I put Kamchatsky instead of Kamchatka.
Otherwise, great quiz.
