Simpsons.wikia.com says: "Lurleen Lumpkin's alliterative name (L.L.) and her feisty style suggests she is based, at least in part, on Loretta Lynn."

Yeah, and unless the producers have announced that these are the things referenced in the show, it seems like the quizmaker has made a lot of these up, making them very subjective, something that is not exactly new to Jetpunk. Examples could include the Beatles, as the Be Sharps performed a very different style of music, and the first syllable should not be all you are going on. Also, there are loads of popular beer brands in the world, so I would assume that the quizmaker here was guessing a popular brand - Budweiser - and hoping that many people would get it (which to be fair, they did). I think some of these need to go back to the drawing board.

The B-sharps were obviously the Beatles. They were bigger than Jesus, they parodied the song Revolution 9, they sang on the rooftop, and Barney even dated a parody of Yoko Ono.

Duff = Bud. Similar sound and Bud is one of the most popular beers in the world, if I'm not mistaken (probably Bud Light, but still). Not too hard to see similarities in any of these if you actually watch the show and pay attention to the nuances.

no all of these make sense. it just seems like you don't know enough about the beatles to understand the MASSIVE number of references they made to the beatles in that episode. there is a clearly correct answer to each one of these

... and the Beatles were a quartet, and they replaced a member right before they became ridiculously famous, and George Harrison guest starred. They couldn't have made it more obvious that the Be Sharps were a parody of the Beatles, short of maybe having Barney get shot and Homer starting a new band before having a successful solo career. Or big flashing lights that said "this is a parody of the Beatles".

not to mention all the album covers they did were direct parodies of Beatles covers...abbey road, meet the beatles,

Yes, Loretta Lynn should be the correct answer to that question. Fixed.

The Be Sharps' album cover was a mirror image of Abbey Road.

I disagree with the previous commenter (I can't bring myself to use the username "goomaster" in a non-hilarious context). These are all pretty clear parodies.

Wouldn't Booberella also be a reference to Barbarella?

From the name alone, one might think that. But the character is definitely based on Elvira.

yeah I get that, but, wouldn't it be fair to say that it's an amalgam of cultural references if the name is clearly based on something else?

I think Booberella's name would be more directly derivative of Vampirella (who in turn derived from Barbarella). It's all a tangled web.

I've never watched an episode of the Simpsons in my life, but I was able to guess 10 just from the clues. I struck out on Bert and Ernie for Ernst and Gunter, though. I tried Arnold for Capital City goofball, and was stoked to get him for Rainier Wolfcastle instead.

The Be Sharps is absolutely not a parody of the Beatles. The fact that the producers used a few Beatles references does not make them a parody of the band. If nothing else, every other parody exists in place of the real thing in the Simpsons universe. Eg. there is no reference to Barbie ever in the show. It's always Malibu Stacy. There is no Mike Tyson. It's always Drederick Tatum. The Beatles clearly exist in the Simpsons' world. Three of them appeared on the show (including George in the Be Sharps episode), and they are mentioned by name several times.

"a few references" is putting it lightly. the references were EVERYWHERE in the episode, from the album cover, to being bigger than jesus to playing on the rooftop, the whole yoko ono thing. the fact that they replaced a member just before making it big.... etc. etc. etc.

I always saw Quimby as more of a "generic" Kennedy. Frankly, I saw him more as Teddy than JFK.

You know, I expected there to be comments saying "X wasn't really a parody of Y!" But to try to argue that the Be Sharps weren't parodying the Beatles . . . that's just . . . wow.
