Maybe just accept "jay" seeing as "blue" is a given?

I wasn't thinking of the program, I was just thinking of "The Blue Screen of Death".

Me too!

And I've never seen an ethernet cable that wasn't yellow, so I only got that one by looking at the connectors.

Likewise. Blue Screen of Death (or BSOD) needs to be acceptable, given the category. And my ethernet cables are yellow as well.

Mine are all yellow too. Then replied RJ-45 because that's what the connectors looked like. Wasn't accepted so was stumped. Forgot the whole cable wasn't called the same.

I've seen ethernet cables in grey, yellow or red more usually than in blue. I don't really think that they qualify as something that's blue...

Blue Screen of Death isn't a computer program - that would be the world's stupidest program - but I suppose we can allow it.

Level 89
Jul 29, 2018
Yeah. That's not really a software program, nor is it really *when crashing*. BSOD is a memory dump displayed *after* the OS has experienced a fatal error aka system crash.

LOL, I also typed "blue screen of death" out of… habit? Anyway, it gave me a chuckle that it was accepted. I look forward to a future quiz where the spinning beach ball of death will also be featured!!

I wouldn't say Ethernet is incorrect, but there are many other objects out there that could be used. I would hazard that yellow has become the generic color at this point. Probably close to 75% of the generic 4 foot cords that come with network gear that I see nowadays are yellow. 10 years ago it was still blue but not anymore. In all my years of running cable, I've never seen Ethernet anywhere on a box. Instead it is the category as in 5, 5e, 6 etc. At least cat 5 works, though.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Ethernet is technically incorrect. Ethernet is a network *protocol*, not a cable type. Back in the proverbial day, Ethernet was almost always carried over coaxial cable, before we ran it on unshielded twisted pair (like the CAT5e cable with RJ45 connectors pictured in the quiz). Larger LANs usually use fiber optic cables, but Ethernet can and has been run on physical media as weird as home electrical wiring, microwave (look MA, no wires! And yes, it was brutal when it snowed), and once, in an April Fool's Day endeavor, carrier pigeons. Impractical, yes – but it works, because if you have the right equipment on the ends, you can run Ethernet on a string between two tin cans.

So, not that it matters in particular, but I feel compelled to share my story on this quiz.

After managing to guess the flag and the hole (I honestly only had a vague idea on both but got them after finishing the other questions), with less than a minute left I went back to the last two.questions. So I said to myself "No way am I gonna get these, but no harm in trying" and just started naming artists. First guess on the artist, bam. "Well, that was luck. I guess it's time to show how few cities in the world I know." And, wouldn't you know it, a song by 'They Might Be Giants' popped into my head and I said "Why not?" So I put it down and the quiz ended. I actually laughed because I couldn't believe it. Sometimes (when given infinite guesses within a time limit) you get things right.

tl;dr: It's like Journey said: Don't stop believing (unless your dream is stupid, then you should get a better dream).

Who or WTF is the answer to the 'fictional character', and how/where would I know it from? Ditto the 'these guys' question.

Could "Moon" not be an acceptable type in for the third question. I appreciate that is a picture of the correct answer, but for those who don't have a great knowledge of astronomy is it not at least a plausible answer that could be a type in?

Also, another who has only ever seen yellow cables for the 15th question.

From where would you know the fictional character? The same place I learned about the country with the blue hole or the type of cable - from taking quizzes on this site, of course. The blue ox is the pet of Paul Bunyan, a giant lumberjack from a series of American tall tales. If you drive through wooded areas of the northern US there are statues of him everywhere advertising restaurants, motels, etc.

Seriously, it's not a moon, it's a gas giant.

I don't know why I'm feeling so picky-surly tonight, but when I saw the "sapphire" photo, I thought something was amiss. It just really doesn't look like a sapphire at ALL (maybe a topaz, or a synthetic blue diamond?). So I checked out its provenance on Wikimedia Commons, and the person who uploaded it did so when he created his account in 2013, and has never done a thing in the Wiki world since then. In fact, reading his intro and username, I'm not convinced he didn't think he was actually uploading a profile pic for himself! And further tellingly, there are plenty of instances of the image on the web before the Wiki upload date. Anywho, none of this is your problem, Quizmaster, but if you wanted to consider an alternative, might I suggest this one, which seems much better sourced, and looks WAAAAY more like a sapphire (because, well, it is): https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Yogo2783_Close_crop.JPG.

Since there is no consensus as to whether Uranus is green or blue, why not just replace it with Neptune, for which there is no doubt. Come on Quizmaster, you need to make a bit of an effort to not ask questions where is the answer isn't clear.
