"man" is no more gender specific than "cow"

Maybe Cow should be removed.

'Cow' does not indicate gender, and is singular for 'cattle', even if city folk think differently :) unlike 'heifer' and 'bull'. Same goes for chicken, hen and rooster.

Wait a minute, you don't get any more country than I am and my grandparents ran a dairy farm. "Cow" is the feminine, singular term for cattle. "Bull" is the masculine, singular term for cattle. I have often heard the phrase, "Get the cows in for milking." - NOT something you want to try with the bulls. Heifer is the term for a young cow not yet old enough to breed or give milk. I agree that cattle is the equivalent term with chicken, but cow equals hen and bull equals rooster. I don't mean to sound like a certain, ubiquitous keeper of all knowledge worth knowing and self-appointed Middle Eastern cultural attache, but I've been around cattle my whole, long life. Cow may be acceptable colloquially, but not really by a cattle person.

Probably because it's short for human?
+1

It's not short for anything. It's an honest-to-goodness word in its own right.

I realize that it has become a word in its own right, but I stick by my assumption that it's not on this quiz because the official title for the mammalian species is human.

Is "ass" the technical name? I think we should remove it otherwise.

Yes, not only is it the technical term for the animal, the animal is the primary definition of the word: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ass

What kind of animal is the "goa" ? I am not able to find it on the internet. All, what I could find is the state of india called Goa and its wildlife. Please provide a link of a picture.

I believe it relates to an Indian bison. But with a differently spelled name. I have a Wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaur

Milk jugs may "secrete milk" but are not warm blooded and do not have fur or bear live young. So that's a hard NO on the snowy milk owl.

Is ape an animal species? It's a branch of the primates.
+1
level 52
Feb 5, 2018
It doesn't say it has to be a species. It just says it can't be any more specific than a species (so no male, female or young animals and no breeds). It can be less specific.
