Song Lyric
You ain't nothin' but a hound dog / Cryin' all the time
I believe I can fly / I believe I can touch the sky
Yeah, I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road / I'm gonna ride 'til I can't no more
Bye-bye, Miss American Pie / Drove my chevy to the levee / But the levee was dry
Hello from the other side / I must have called a thousand times
Oh Mickey you're so fine / You're so fine you blow my mind
I shot the sheriff / but I didn't shoot no deputy
What is love / Baby don't hurt me / Don't hurt me no more
Rollin' down the street smokin' endo / Sippin' on gin and juice
I'm sorry Ms. Jackson, OOOH, I am for real / Never meant to make your daughter cry
But I see your true colors shining through / I can see your true colors and that's why I love you
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight / It doesn't matter who's wrong or right/ Just beat it
Hey sexy lady / Op op op op oppan Gangnam style
Like a true nature's child / we were born / born to be wild
The only one who could ever reach me / Was the son of a preacher man
Love and marriage / Go together like a horse and carriage
Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poker face
But since u been gone / I can breathe for the first time
When I'm not with you I lose my mind / Give me a sign / Hit me, baby one more time
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do / I bless the rains down in Africa

I guarantee "Gangnam Style" would be much higher if people actually knew how to spell it.

I had no idea there were people so proud of their ignorance of groundbreaking international pop culture. It reminds me of people who brag about not being able to do math!

"Groundbreaking"? For its virality? You say this, yet there are probably loads of popular trends that you would in fact be proud of your ignorance of.

Can you really not think of one thing in the entire history of all human society that you would rather not be informed about? No dumb popular trend, no stupid hit song? What makes "Gangnam Style" so different from those? It isn't exactly Shakespeare.

I thought I was starting to pay attention to English song lyrics (I never used to before), but since I managed to completely miss Mickey, What is Love, Poker Face and Gangnam Style, all songs I thought I knew really well (and love), I think I was deluding myself.

I love how so many people pick specific pop culture references that are "below them." Just because you know what Gangnam Style is and how to spell it does not make you socially unacceptable. It simply means you are observant.

Well, to be fair, it was just the one person. I don't really get it either; even if you don't like the song, it was a news-headlining cross-cultural, boundary-smashing phenomenon, not to mention its YouTube viewership being the all-time highest, ever.

People will brag "So proud that DIDN'T get this clue" because it is something popular culturally. I've noticed this type of attitude is especially prevalent when the topic is something geared towards young girls.

It is so pretentious and actually doesn't make people sound smart like they think it does. It makes them sound like they've been living under a rock and don't pay attention to basic cultural things going on around them. If you're American and you've made it to 2021 without knowing basic pop culture like who the Kardashians or Justin Bieber are, that doesn't actually make you very intelligent!

There is a movie that the song comes from. They used to show it at midnight showings like Rocky Horror. The wonderful thing is that all the songs get in your head....it's a great reggae soundtrack to live by.

I remember this song when it came out, but I don't remember a movie being connected with it at the time. Marley came out with his version in '73, but Eric Clapton made it famous a year later.

I blame the "U" spelling. Is that how it's stylized in the title? I still feel like the lyrics should spell "you", since they are lyrics and not song titles.

Very misleading, since I was looking for a single-letter word and I thought I was going crazy!

This might seem kind of picky, but Weird Al Yankovic's "Ricky" and "Polka Face" work for both "Mickey" and "Poker Face," respectively. I know they're parodies/reworks of the original songs, but... they DO meet the criteria, so I think they're still worth accepting as valid answers.
