Interestingly, the lower octane rating of American gasoline can be explained by a different measurement method compared for example with Europe. The gasoline quality should be the same.

Any more, and the value of the copper itself would probably be more than a penny!

Well, pennies may only be 2.5% copper anymore, but that 2.5% covers the entire outside, and shares a name with the color of pennies. So it's not terribly surprising to me.

Just for fun: did you know that for one year (1943), copper was not used in pennies? That year they made them out of steel instead.

1943 and 1942. There were two years of steel penny.

Are you sure? I'm looking around and I can't find any reference to steel pennies from 1942, except as one of the uncirculated pattern coins made as a test for what eventually became the 1943 steel cents. There were apparently a very few steel pennies made in error in 1944, but those are even rarer than the 1943 copper cents.

Both George HW moved in at the start. Homer and him had a Dennis the Menace/Mr Wilson type relationship and by the end of the show the Bushes moved away and the Fords moved in. I may be off a little bit with the exact words but when Gerald introduces himself to Homer. He say's "Homer do you like to watch football and drink beer?" to which Homer replies, "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship".

lol I had forgotten about Gerald Ford.

Here's the line (don't forget to read Ford in an slow, monotone voice):

Gerald Ford: Say, Homer, do you like football?

Homer: Do I ever!

Gerald Ford: Do you like nachos?

Homer: Yes, Mr. Ford.

Gerald Ford: Well, why don't you come over and watch the game and we'll have nachos, and then some beer.

Need? Odd question. We don't "need" any kind of celebrities. Celebrity occurs to some people through some combination of luck and intention, but I'm not sure that anyone's needs are part of the equation.

Anyway, they are no worse than celebrity athletes, musicians, or writers. The best you can do is ignore them if they don't appeal to you.

I really know nothing about the US as compared to European countries, even as an American. I should do a bit more random Wikipedia surfing.
