Agreed. The answer should be Houston (4th largest city in the US and named for an animal: Sam Houston) or Phoenix (5th largest) if the description is added to exclude humans.

Yes, but I don't think of humans as animals right away. I tried Phoenix multiples times thinking I misspelled it. Maybe a hint that fictional animals don't count?

Buffalo is widely considered not to be named for an animal. It is more likely an anglicisation of 'beau fleuve', meaning 'beautiful river'
