A simple check of the U.S. Census Bureau website would be easier than posting a false claim.

Except jguthriex is right. Florida is bigger than Georgia. Both in land area (which is what this quiz is about) and population.

Georgia has a larger land area. Florida is only larger allowing land and water area.

I disagree with someone2018. It's much easier to post a false claim than verify information. Just look at < insert favorite news/ website >.

Strange why people can't go right to the horse's mouth instead of the other end.

Here, the U.S. government measured states by the square meter. You won't find anyone doing it more accurately so this should settle the naysayers.

Florida's land area: 53,624 mi²

Georgia's land area: 57, 513 mi²

I believe those are square miles, not square metres.

Some quizzes allow too much time. This one could do with an extra 30 seconds or so. Not so much that one can simply type random states, but enough so that one can try a few guesses without running the clock.

Well it is actually 7 nobrainers except Florida and Michigan are not correct and you have to figure out why (or rather guess). IMHO enough time.

No brainers for Americans, maybe. You do realise other people exist, right? And we do also like taking quizzes?

Michigan borders Minnesota on Lake Superior.

On land? If so, where? If you mean by water borders, they have to border other states by land, not by water.

Uh, no. It doesn't work that way. Do you also think Illinois and Michigan border each other across Lake Michigan?

About 10-15 more seconds would be beneficial. I like the idea for the quiz, although it winds up slightly amusing that because most of the states with the largest land area are in the west/south west, they nearly all border the far larger Texas (2nd) or California (3rd): New Mexico (5th), Arizona (6th), Nevada (7th), Colorado (8th), and Oregon (10th in land area) are all bordering TX or CA (except for CO, which instead borders New Mexico and is separated from TX by only a sliver of the Oklahoma panhandle).

Also, why land area and not just total area?

7/7 (from UK) but I agree ther should be a bit more time. I got lucky with a couple of states, there isn't much time for wrong guesses here...

in terms of other states, yeah, but when you compare it to massachusetts, vermont, new jersey, pennsylvania, and connecticut...it actually kind of looms :)

The way to show a proposed candidate does not satisfy the criterion of being larger than every state it borders is to find a counterexample, a larger bordering state. So, Hawaii and Alaska are solutions also: you can't find a state bordering Hawaii that's larger than Hawaii. Same holds for Alaska.

for Hawaii and Alaska to qualify they would have to border another state, since they dont they are not answers.

Michigan is larger than Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Your quiz was based on LAND area, so you should only honor LAND borders. If it were TOTAL area, then you can look at water borders, they still exceed Minnesota.

You should use the same metrics: total area with total borders or total land area with land borders. Or, I suggest adding a bullet-point in the instructions that specifies that water borders count.
