Impossible if you're not American. I ended up just guessing US cities, before realising that I can't tell which are cities and which are states. In New Zealand we just have cities, which are easy to remember, and provinces, which nobody cares about.

Its more that non-Americans don't really think about each of the cities in USA when it comes towards bands. As an Australian myself, I can tell you we just say British Bands, American Bands etc. because really saying that one comes from New Orleans and one comes from San Diego doesn't mean a thing to an Australian. I would like to see some foreigner tell me every city that Australian bands come from, because I could tell you where they all are but to everyone else they are all just Australian bands, the cities don't mean anything. It works the same way with America.

I'm American and had no problem getting the Beatles, Rolling Stones, U2, ABBA, AC/DC, or Oasis. Had to guess some for Black Sabbath but it's not like that's impossible. Liverpool, London, and Dublin are currently among the 4 most-guessed answers, with Liverpool being #1 and it's not like Liverpool is the first city everyone thinks of when they think of British cities. Don't blame your ignorance on your nationality.

^ For the non-American bands in this quiz, they've chosen some really obvious ones. Like, everyone knows the Beatles come from Liverpool, and that ABBA are Swedish so that one's just an easy guess. Stop criticising people as an excuse to show off.

@Deadpool - I guess it depends on how big of a fan you are. Non American big fans of music like blues, punk and rap definitely care about which US cities certain musicians/bands are from because different regions/cities have their own distinct sounds, and certain cities are famous for producing lots of certain types of music. NYC and Washington DC for example are really well known for having produced a ton of hardcore punk bands in the late 70s/early 80s.

haha.. I'm not showing off. :D Stop accusing others of showing off as a way to make yourself feel better about not knowing the answers. I missed one this time, too, and it was an American city that I missed. But that's not the quizz's fault... it's a well-known artist and a well-known city I just didn't know the answer.

Most of the American bands and cities chosen represent specific sounds that are iconic to those cities. They didn't just pick a random act from Detroit like the White Stripes. They picked Diana Ross, one of the Motown label's biggest names. People who know music should know Motown is from Detroit. Ditto Pearl Jam and Nirvana, the two biggest grunge bands. People who know music should know Seattle was the epicenter of the grunge scene. Ludacris and Gladys Knight both sing about Georgia. Buddy Guy is a famous blues musician and Kanye West mentions Chicago in half of his songs. Louis Armstrong is a jazz musician and probably New Orleans's most iconic native. The airport is named after him. The clues for Boston and Philadelphia are definitely the hardest, but Boyz II Man has a famous song called "Motown Philly" and Mark Wahlberg's Boston roots are pretty well-known from his acting days. Athens is definitely the hardest.

This is a really weird thing to be outraged by. Oak Lawn is a ten-minute drive from the city limits. It is enveloped in Chicago culture. Also people tend to say they're from Chicago when talking to people from elsewhere because "I'm from River Forest" doesn't mean anything to anyone.

I agree with Tiger1313. According to a couple of references I have checked since doing the quiz, Aretha Franklin was born in Memphis.

Yes, born in Memphis, but she lived almost her entire life in Detroit and that's the city she's associated with. Including Diana Ross also removes any doubt in that clue.
