No, trashing it is an indication of arrogance and immaturity. You don't have to like it. There is no reason to trash something people enjoy. Yeah, it's disposable, but it's not evil. Liking Taylor Swift does not make someone unintelligent or bad. It's just a taste. I know some brilliant people who love some of the artists on this list. Get over yourself.

Seriously, is there anything worse than pretentious comments by music snobs? Congrats, you don't like pop music (probably have never given it an honest chance in most cases, therefore you have no familiarity to it. it's just the cool, edgy thing to shit on anything popular).

In my experience, people who TRULY love music can actually appreciate all forms to some degree. I know people who only listen to like classic rock and judge all other forms of music and it's just so narrow. The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Dylan etc are fantastic, but that is one genre of music. It is not the be all end all of sound. It's actually kinda pathetic to limit yourself to certain genres of music. If someone cannot appreciate a song like "Hey ya" by Outkast, I honestly feel kind of sorry for them!

Thanks for such a true comment. People will always have something to say, but in this case, they’d be wrong. The world would be a better place if everyone was open-minded, about music or anything. Stop judging and we’ll stop judging your ol’ music (that’s pretty good actually!).

You know who says that? Old people.

"Turn that racket down you young punks!"

+3
Level 84
Nov 23, 2017
Old people usually don't need to turn their music down because they are generally considerate of other people. Young people, due to lack of experience, are less intelligent. They tend to think more of themselves than they should. If not raised to have manners, they tend to think the world revolves around themselves, and are insecure, which manifests itself it their pathetic attempts to assert themselves, like by blasting their music, without any regard for the right to peace and quiet of others around them. This makes them punks.

You want to blast your music? How about if I blast opera at twice the decibel level right back at you. You think that'll make the world a better place?

That’s not (totally) true. I’ve just started high school and I’ve hated most of these songs for the past few years as well as most other pop songs. I think it’s the recurring theme of making every song about love and using dumb editing on the vocals that make me not like the song.

No such thing as a 'bad taste in music', music is literally an individuals interpretation of a collection of sounds, its purely opinion, not fact, so you can't really tell anyone they have a 'bad taste in music'.

+2
Level 66
Jun 20, 2019
I think that is exactly why the opinions are so divided. It is for a wide public, so that as many as people will like it ( usually for a short amount of time untill the next hit comes along) Catchy tunes that easily become popular. But for the same reason often lack depth (not allways thought, but generally they are just songs that make people happy, has something very recognisable (like being in love/heartbroken or misunderstood) or lyrics that tend to stick.

Though POPulair with a wide audience, songs that can be rinsed and repeated often are not considered unique, I think that is what people get opinionated over. That does not mean that the people that bash pop music have good taste either. (often it is just the pop music from a few decades earlier)

+1
Level 66
Jun 20, 2019
Btw there used to be much less songs, now every second several 100s new songs are being produced, so a song that used to be considered special and unique wont be if it is produced now, because there are thousand of similar songs.

You cant argue taste, everyone likes what makes them happy. Personally I like real artists that dont do it for the money, but put soul in their (self written) work, and go from pub to pub to play, just for passion. It is a rare thing, but they excist. More in some genres than others.

I guess music that is about the music, something the artist would play in his livingroom even if there was no audience (or money) just their love for the guitar for instance. Barely anything on the radio qualifies for that. (logically cause those are usually pushed by record labels/managers)

The above is my personal opionion and taste, people that like other stuff arent any less. Though there is a bigger chance of a click with people that have the same interest

Older people only possess worthless information, and younger people should never learn anything about things that happened before they were born. It might damage their fragile self-esteem.
