Nov 23, 2012
WOW, are people at Blender that bad with their taste in music? Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da is one of the very best Beatles songs, The End is a masterpiece, and the Billy Joel, Genesis, Simon & Garfunkel, and Beach Boys songs DEFINITELY do not belong on here. What the hell??
+1
Level 71

We can disagree on matters of taste: even as a teenager I could recognize "The End" as self-indulgent pseudo-Freudian nonsense. Morrison wanted to write like Rimbaud, but ended up sounding like Rambo.

That's fine, we don't have to both like it. Though I will say I enjoy it as a musical journey more than for lyrical value, which is just how I am with most songs I like.

How on earth are the Beatles, REM, Simon and Garfunkel and The Doors on this list?? Even if they're not to your taste, I don't see how anyone can consider them amongst the 50 worse songs of all time! I'd be very interested to see what's on Blender's playlist...

My thoughts exactly! And Uncle Kracker's 'Follow Me', to quote another of his songs, makes me smile, 'The End' can't be considered without seeing Apocalypse Now, IMO, which Blender obviously hasn't, 'Superman' is a great mellow song, 'We Didn't Start the Fire' is a great history lesson, 'Mmmm' (x4) is hilariously wonderful and 'The Final Countdown' serves its purpose perfectly.

I am sure they were going after 50 bad songs that are popular, not looking into 50 GWar or rap songs or 50 terrible songs I never heard of. Although I like a good number of songs on the list, I understand their point. As much as I like The End or Sound of Silence, the lyrics to the songs are pretty cheesy.

because in those cases it is often the artist that annoys you, not the songs themself. (though sometimes both, often the hate for a certain artist transcends the feeling for the actual song and everything by that artist is suddenly awfull)

Bieber is hated for being a kid and all the hype and syrupy pop music, but it should be just a matter of a lot of people don't like his music, not an exponential bandwagon of hate. There's far worse crap. Any screech owl derived from Whitney Houston's influence or American Idol.

+1
Level 67
Apr 21, 2016
Ya I think that's the best kind of song for the list though. Ones that people now hate because they were overplayed. If the song was truly no good at all, no one would have heard of it, so you have to pick songs that are well known, but less well liked.

MacDonald's hamburgers are crap cuisine and they keep selling. Your point? Sales figures do not indicate quality. How about that crap Lion King song? I don't like Elton John, yet give him credit for his unique musical talent. However, that song was middle of the road, bland, utter garbage. Why did Disney use it? Because Walt and his nose for talent are dead. Crap sells if you have the bucks to sell it.

+1
Level 57
Jan 12, 2017
How high were you when you wrote this?

I can understand someone saying they don't like the Beatles music, because taste is subjective, but objectively, the Beatles and the Backstreet Boys aren't a good comparison. The Beatles wrote and performed all their songs (minus the few covers they did early on), while the Backstreet Boys got in the band by interviewing with producers, wrote none of their songs and didn't contribute any instrument performances. They sang other peoples songs, and left no real trace of their passing.

Hell, even if the Beatles only recorded Tomorrow Never Knows, they would still have been one of the most influential bands ever, since that song basically revolutionized the recording industry.

95 percent of these songs DO NOT belong on this list! Some of these songs are by some of the greatest music artist of all time. I wonder what their list of 50 greatest songs are.
+1
Level 54
Nov 25, 2012
A lot of these songs should not be on this list. Surely there are worse. Huey Lewis does not belong at all. Heart of Rock and Roll is a great song. Breakfast at Tiffany's is a pretty cool tune, although overplayed in its day. I'll Be There For You is only the theme to one of the most popular TV shows (Friends). I don't see Uncle Kracker's song as that bad either. Anything REM doesn't belong and although the Final Countdown is a tad cheesy, it is a part of every arena sporting event. At least She Bangs and I'm too Sexy made the list. They belong there.

WTF!!!! The End is one of the best songs ever written. Sure it's a little indulgent and overly long, but isn't that what the public love about Jim Morrison; he did what he wanted and didn't conform to what people told him to be or do. This song belongs on the Best Ever list, not the Worst Ever. And if any Beatles song should be on this list, it would have to be Revolution 9. And I thought The End was indulgent.

Never heard of Blender, but I can just tell they've got awful taste in music. A lot of these aren't necessarily supposed to be masterpieces (Cotton Eye Joe and Barbie Girl, for example, are just fun songs) But honestly, how did Limp Bizkit, Celine Dion, The Beatles, Deep Blue Something, The Rembrandts as well as others end up on this list? Dumb list of course (though I do dislike most of the songs on here that I've heard of). Obviously these were all hits or nobody would know about them enough to hate them.

It's the same kind of mentality that insists Nickelback is the worst band ever. Yes they suck, but there are much, much worse out there.

Well 'The End' and 'Sounds of Silence' clearly do not belong here - I'd likely include both on 50 best songs of all time. But apart from those stand outs there are plenty of songs here that, even if not personal favourites, certainly do not belong anywhere near this list. That's not to say none of these deserve to be here. You could probably just fill this list with Limp Bizkit songs and it would be closer to the truth.

'Worst' = 'I'm not comfortable with these songs I don't understand'. There are many songs on this list I don't even like but I don't consider them among the worst ever. To include 'The End', 'Shiny Happy People', and anything by the Beatles is to not understand music. Not like listening to it, personally hate it, sure; but that doesn't make it 'the worst'.

Having said all that, the one song I'm glad was on the list is 'What's Up'.

We Built this City, We Didn't Start the Fire and The Final Countdown make the list of the worst songs in history, yet no sign of Baby by Justin Bieber or any of his songs in general. So many songs deserve to be on this list, but some of the ones on it right now don't.

Are people from Blender Magazine freakin' high as kite? We Built this city, Final Countdown, Shiny Happy People, We Didn't Start the Fire, Sound of Silence SERIOUSLY??? Okay you might not like some of those songs but calling those WORST SONGS EVER is a "small" overstatement. Yeah I can't think of any worse songs than those.... Guys who made this list were "I don't like it so it must be sh*i" kind of people or just trolls and put some good tunes on it to get some attentction.

I was ready to go to the "#1 Hits of the 1970s Quiz" and start typing in half the songs. Despite what everyone thinks of as 70s music, it was Tie That Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree and You Light Up My Life and other crap that dominated the charts. Classic rock? Barely a nibble at #1. Even well known disco was steam rolled by worse garbage. That being said, this list just goes after songs someone wished weren't as popular as they are, not the worst of the worst. We'll give them Meatloaf, but where's Paradise By the Dashboard Light?

Love this list- brought back some memories of some really terrible songs that I probably would never have thought of (or played) again without doing this quiz- and even though some are defending some songs on the list, I think they are all warranted for one reason or another. The only omission that surprised me was Hanson MM-Bop. Any song that just makes noise like Crash Test Dummies or Master P or the Beatles or Ricky Martin songs included on here instead of actual lyrics rightly deserves a spot. No matter how catchy the tune or if it gets stuck in your head.
