Ander217 is correct, eggplants (and tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco, etc.) are in the nightshade family:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solanaceae
Eggplant -
Kingdom: Plantae
(unranked): Angiosperms
(unranked): Eudicots
(unranked): Asterids
Order: Solanales
Family: Solanaceae
Genus: Solanum
Species: S. melongena
Also, I missed the largest living organism question because I guessed Aspen - technically, most aspen forests are only one organism, the tree shoots off clones of itself through it's roots, so it's generally recognized as the largest living organism.
Eggplants and thistles are both in the subclass Asteridae but that is pretty far away from being in the same family.
The largest organism also confused me... I tried aspen (Google "Pando quaking aspen" for more info). There is also a fungus (Armillaria ostoyae) that grows pretty huge.
