Some surprising data. Sintra is probably the second municipality of the country, but there are multiple cities like Queluz or Rio de Mouro. Although Algarve is one of the most prosperous regions of the country, none of its cities makes it to the top25. Who would have thought it?

Shouldn't Faro be in this list?

Although it seems unlikely, Faro has a proper population of 41307. If you visit the city from June to September the seasonal population rises to almost 250000; metro area adds up to 450000, number close to 1.5 million in the same period.

Faro as a municipality has easily around 70 000 inhabitants even in Winter due to the students. It's true that it's population should drop to 65 000 on a regular basis and it's also true that the city itself is not the municipality but considering that there are only other 3 villages: Estói, Conceição and Santa Bárbara de Nexe and that these villages are extremely small, they surely can't surpass a 10 000/12 000 inhabitants. Remains Montenegro, which is undoubtely bigger than the other 3 but due to the University is also the parish with most "nonproper" population since it's mostly students that lives there. I don't know where did you get the 41 307 nor the 250 000. From all the official data Faro within it's city limits doesn't fall behind a 44 000/47 000 proper inhabitants. And it certainly doesn't reach the 250 000 that you said even during Summer since Faro it's particularly unaffected when compared to Albufeira, Portimão, Lagos, or many other cities/villages.

You seem to have a fair knowledge of the city and its surroundings. The data is not mine; I use figures form official sources, like INE, citypopulation.de, wikipedia and the webpage of Faro municipality. Official data goes back to 2011 and state that the municipality reaches a population of 64560 inhabitants, being 47000 of the city proper. Although I do not agree with the assumption, Portuguese authorities take the whole of the Algarve as being the metro area of Faro and figures for such a metro area are not reliable. Thanks for the input.
