CLARIFICATION: this quiz was edited by quizmaster, my original quiz was intentionally non-political since my country has been ravished by autocratic regimes, the answer to the question "President of Venezuela, 2013-" is not only wrong but deeply disrespectful to my people and our collective tragedy and also ignorant of the political process we are in the middle of.

On a lighter note, too bad the "arepa" question was deleted, and being born and raised in the city of Maracaibo I can assure you it is hydrologically speaking a Lake connected by a canal and the Bay of Tablazos to the Gulf of Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea.

In South America there was a thing a while ago about the US goalie being the long lost son of the Venezuelan dictator or something.

On the "table-top mountains" question, "Venezula" is misspelled.

Perhaps change Disney to Pixar? The works of Pixar and Disney Animation are typically considered separate.

Yeah I had a feeling "beauty pageants" was the answer to the last question. Lots of beautiful women in Venezuela, after all.

They've won more than any other country except for the United States, and maybe the Philippines, I forget if the latter is in 2nd or 3rd place. I think 3rd. Those 3 are far above anyone else.

Yeah, Venezuela certainly has soul-captivatingly beautiful women AND MEN. I don't know if it's a strength-through-adversity thing or what, but they obviously know how to take extremely good care of themselves.

For some reason the rule from the previous question had transferred in my head for the movie clue as well. I couldn't figure out how Up should start with a T and was wracking my brain to try and think of another Pixar movie. I guess it's too early in the morning for quizzes.

It's Amerigo not Americo, although I see how one could confuse the two consonants

Well, in Spanish (here in Venezuela) we actually know him as Américo Vespucio. It was weird finding out that his actual name is Amerigo Vespucci.

It's interesting, because you're supposed to stress the "i", not the "e" (in Italian, at least), so the original name is pronounced "Amerìgo". That's what they teach us in Italy, although I don't think the name has Italian origins at all

The original name is Amerigo Vespucci. He is Italian so you have to write Amerigo or the Spanish form.

Yes, it is. Football has become very popular, but only recently. Baseball has a longer history in the country.

This quiz was a disappointing and agonizing heartbreaker for someone like me.

A possible 5-star outcome for me on this quiz impresses upon me a quite haunting taunt. I got 16/20 right for 3 out of 5 stars. I guess the only way I could get a satisfying outcome is by cheating - ?!

I don't know anything about Chavez. I could read copiously in the papers or other news sources here in the USA about what has been going on there, and the truth of what he has and hasn't done and the truth of the struggles Venezula has endured for a number of years now could still remain hopelessly unknown and imperceptible to me.

I can only say with my very limited knowledge that with the combined incredible beauty of Venezuela's women (AND MEN), as demonstrated by winning so many beauty pageants and demonstrated in other ways, coupled with Venezuela's incredible oil reserves, you would think that Venezuela could provide an enormously satisfying, much-needed thrust for progress on this planet.

Fun fact:

Lake maracaibo is known as the lightning capital of the world. The place gets thunderstorms 140-160 days every year. At those times, they get as much as 16 lightnings per minute for nine hours straight.

Scientists aren't sure, but they believe that it is due to the large methane deposits around the lake. You can read more about it in this Wikipedia article here
