Sorry it took this long to reply. Un Lun Dun is a good one, and then The City and the City. From there it's safe to go to Perdido Street Station

Can't believe so few people know Robin Hobb. Beyond Tolkien, Pratchett, Martin and Rowling I always thought she was pretty much the staple of the genre.
