Well, an oversea territoy and a colony are two things completely different. For example, Guadeloupe, Guyane, Martinique, La Réunion and Mayotte are five of the French oversea territories, but they have the same status of the other French departments of mainland France. We can't use "colony". I think you should change the title, which can be badly interpreted.

Yes, what defines a colony? What about West Papua, which was invaded by Indonesia and has been controlled by that country, with the connivance of the UN, ever since?

I'm glad that you have changed the title to "Overseas Territories". However, the debate doesn't end there. What is the jetpunk definition of an overseas territory? Your source does not appear to define it. Wikipedia says that there needs to be a considerable degree of autonomy - which I guess is why Hong Kong and Macau are not included. By the same account, I don't think that military bases, such as Akrotiri and Dhekelia should be included. They are under the direct control of the military - which is effectively a branch of government.

On the other hand, some countries have devolved power in their regions to such a large extent, that one might consider them quasi-independent. What makes the Faroes or Aland Overseas Territories but not Madeira, for example?
