The quiz has 51 possible mystery countries - or 9,996 answers in total. More than 51 possible mystery countries would, unfortunately, exceed the 10,000 answer limit. :(
Also, due to the way this quiz is set up, we had to remove the answer cells. Sorry colorblind people
The series has officially ended since no sequels need to be made. We hope you enjoyed the series! :)
Try Simon1006's 'random mystery city' version here if you enjoyed!
The trick was to use classes instead of paths in Inkscape, a trick that allowed us to make JetPunk render 1 individual path as 48 seperate. An extremely long class was added for each path (country). Basically, it was [(selected country)(mystery country)] 48 times per country. The classes were added to the quiz as well.
Then we calculated the distance between each mystery country and other / selected country (9,408 total) and added them onto one really long spreadsheet and added type-ins.
(Libya and Ethiopia don't seem to be lighting up for me when guessed or at the end.)
i tried italy, spain , switzerland.. morocco then finally tunisia !!
(you may want to change the title to "Find the Random Mystery Country Using Color Clues"
I think it's slowed down, because it's averaged *only* 4.9 takes a minute for the last ten minutes
51/51*50/51*49/51*48/51*47/51*46/51*45/51=0.65, or 65%
51/51*50/51*49/51*48/51*47/51*105/2601 = 3.3% , so it will happen to 1 in 30 players playing 7 times, which seems reasonable
Edit: What bad is happening to JetPunk?!?!?!
Can I translate to Portuguese?
This might seem like a silly question, but how do you know which was the correct answer...? I was frantically typing in countries around south-east Asia until the quiz stopped and I thought the time ran out, but it actually ended because I got it... I'm not entirely sure which of the countries I typed was the correct one though! (was it Malaysia?)
Also, at the end of that play when the map was revealed, several countries stayed black - does that mean something? Mali, Libya, Ethiopia, Pakistan & Croatia remained noticeably noir.
Edit: Even while playing a second time, those countries didn't light up when I type them, and Seychelles is another. The second play was Estonia FTW. On Firefox/Mac.
Malaysia is one of the options so that could very well be :)
I was previously worried about this quiz getting more takes than Win the U.S. Presidential Election did when this quiz goes on the front page. I, however, am not worried anymore, because worry dies without uncertainty and I am no longer uncertain whether or not it will get more than 28,461 takes.
i had Canada as the mystery country and it put, Norway, Sweden, Russia and Finland as red
The reason we went with number of countries closer instead of absolute distance is that if you were to get say Austria, either all of Europe is red and you're just guessing around, or you need to place the distance limits quite close. But if you do the latter and get say Tonga, barely any country will be red, meaning finding the mystery country will be extremely hard
would nominate but I need to wait 8 hours oof
But I have an issue: sometimes the mystery country is showed in green in the end
Comments under Polish translation: stupid quiz, idk how it works!!!111!!!
Congrats on your 4th feature(in advance) and top 150 quizmakers.
Also, a small note: If you play the quiz hundreds of times you might begin to memorize the mystery countries and only type in those countries since there are 51 of them (more than 51 would exceed the 10k answer limit, unfortunately). To prevent this from happening, we change the list of mystery countries every two weeks. So if you begin to play the quiz too much and start to memorize the mystery countries, just wait two weeks and the list will be fresh again! :)
