Enter name of ethnic group in plural.
Here's the quiz without yellow box: https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/126670/ethnic-minorities-of-russia-by-flag-no-yellow-box
Mix of ethnic, administrative and even separatist flags (the flags I could find).
That's not actually an ethnic group - the groups that make up "Dagestanis" are included here. Check out Dagestan on Wikipedia and look for official languages and you'll see.
I really don't care about ratings. I've made a ton of quizzes just for myself as a learning aid, and my latest craze is ethnic groups and their flags. And teaching myself to type the names of ethnic groups in the plural is part of my style (as opposed to just focusing on the adjective). I mean, people are plural: e.g. Norwegians, Swedes, Danes, and so on. Unless the only plural was "Swede people", I would never allow typing "Swede" to be sufficient, for instance.
I didnt like that I had to stick to the order in which the flags appear. I would like to just drop some names and they would get automatically matched to the right flag.
Please don't use the Israeli flag for Jews. From my vantage point, it conflates Jews and Israelis and perpetuates the harmful idea that Israel is/serves as/should be a Jewish state. The state of Israel commits Zionist human rights abuses against the indigenous population in the name of anti-antisemitism. While Jews unjustly benefit from Zionism, and many Jews perpetuate, support, or turn a blind eye to the imperialistc, apartheid, and settler colonial nature of Israel, many Jews are also opposed to Zionism. Also, the conflation of Zionism and Judaism is weaponized against those opposing the state of Israel or its actions by being used to label them as antisemitic, instead of antiZionist, which is significant as Zionism is a political ideology, not a people. As a Jew, I think the flag of Israel is not good for representing Jewish people or representing ashkenazim. Also, I think it's harmfully anachronistic. I get using a country's flag, but in this specific case, I think it's harmful.
I agree with everything you just said. Obviously, as political symbols, flags can be controversial, and there are few more controversial than those of Israel and Palestine because of that terrible conflict. I totally get it, and for the sake of comparison I think we can all understand why diaspora Iranians or Vietnamese don't identify with the current flags of those states, whose governments and ruling ideologies they don't want to be associated with. That's why it's inherently tricky, as a flag enthusiast and quiz maker, to match an ethnic group with a specific flag. Most of the time I end up using the flag of a country or a region where that group is a majority, or even more controversially the flag of a separatist organization claiming to represent that group. I hope people understand that, but obviously it's important to inform and educate whenever possible, because people should learn not to conflate ethnicity and ideology.
