Cary Grant is abducted by agents who claim he is 'George Kaplan' (he isn't). He has to escape and find the real Kaplan. There are famous scenes with a crop-duster plane and at Mount Rushmore.
North By Northwest
1958
A detective rescues a woman from a river. Later she chucks herself off a church but he can't stop her because of his fear of heights. Later he meets someone who reminds him of her... and it turns out it actually is her and she faked her death (it's all a bit confusing).
Vertigo

James Stewart has a broken leg, so he watches his neighbours from his flat for a bit of entertainment. He becomes convinced that one of them is a murderer.

This was filmed in 3D - you can tell by the way Grace Kelly theatrically reaches out to grab the telephone. Her husband wants to murder her for having an affair.
Dial M For Murder

Two people unknown to each other get talking on a railway journey. They both have someone at home driving them mad. One of them suggests they could 'swap murders', and so neither of them would ever get caught.
Strangers On A Train

The film is entirely set on an eponymous small boat, containing the assorted survivors of a Nazi topedo attack (including the captain of the U-boat).

Based on a story by Daphne du Maurier, it's named after the original Mrs de Winter (now dead). The new Mrs de Winter takes up residence in a big house called Manderley, but the servants don't really take to her very well.

The Lady Vanishes

This is loosely based on a novel by John Buchan. Robert Donat tries to prevent spies stealing military secrets. But he gets wrongly accused of murder and tries to hide on the Scottish moors.
The 39 Steps
1934 / 1956
Hitchcock made two different films under this title, thrillers about the foiling of an assasination plot. The later version features Doris Day singing 'Que Sera, Sera'.
