Awesome quiz!! Nominated. It deserves a feature for sure. I loved it how you have mentioned the name of the country in the brackets... simply fascinating. And btw, the location of Hyderabad in Pakistan is a bit too high. It's more near the Arabia Sea

Thanks a lot for your words! And about Hyderabad, I've moved it a bit closer to the sea

The one in California is spelled "Monterey", which I think makes them not the exact same name.

I didn't realize that. I've replaced them with different pair of cities

Wonderful quiz. Would be neat if you could perhaps colour-code the dots so that one set would have one colour and the second set would have another colour? For example, Alexandria, Egypt could have red and Alexandria, Romania could have yellow? The same could apply to other cities, and this could also be implied to the grid as well.

Thanks! Especially about your suggestion. I hadn't thought about that, but it does look better this way.

Nice quiz. I live in Melbourne, Australia, and often when I do internet searches I receive results for Melbourne in Florida, USA.

Thanks! I don't have that problem myself as I live in a small town in Spain and there does't seem to be any other place with the same name, but I guess it must be frustrating sometimes

Nice quiz! Athens in Greece doesn't become green and what is the city in Finland?

Glad you liked the quiz! And sorry about the errors, Athens now lights up, and the dot in Finland was just an unnecessary dot which I don't know how ended up there, I've removed it

Hi!

Great idea, but so many alternatives possible. For example Bergen is a larger city in Belgium (although better known for its French name of Mons) and the Netherlands. Both larger than the German one. For Georgetown, the one in Malaysia is definitely bigger than either the US or Guyana one. Could go on, but these are just two examples. The concept and execution are nice!

Thanks! And I know that in some cases there are bigger cities, but using always the biggest cities wasn't really the point of the quiz

So, we can conclude that Spaniards were not that much creative to name cities, but English/Americans are way worse! (Just joking)

Let me just ask one thing: your criteria to choose the names was the exact same spelling? Because in Brazil we have some translated names, like Belém (Bethlehem, which exists both in Israel and in the US) and Nova Iorque (New York). There is also Palmas, which has a namesake in southern France. That not to talk about the "New" cities (like Nova Odessa and Nova Friburgo/Freiburg). And also, I ask that because the city in southern Brazil is actually Santa Cruz do Sul, not just Santa Cruz. If it needs to be the exact same name, would be better to pick the less known cities of Santa Cruz located in Pernambuco, Paraíba or Rio Grande do Norte.

Yes, we took many place names from the peninsula and used them in the New World, but the US did indeed do the unoriginal names thing to another level Xd But I guess thanks to that you can get from Athens to Birmingham way faster than you would normally!

Yes, it was intended to only include cities with the same spelling, not translations.

And thanks for telling me about the Santa Cruz do Sul thing, I've changed it with the one in Rio Grande do Norte.

Looks like there’s a minor error as I’ve finished with an odd number... Guadalajara is only turning the Spanish one green, it’s saying I got that but not the Mexican one!

I tried it, and it gives both of them to me when I type it! Maybe the one that doesn't work properly is another city?

I typed in Hamilton because there was a dot in Bermuda and was surprised to find Hamilton, Ontario was not on there. I was also surprised to find Newcastle, UK not on there. Anyway, I learned about some of the more obscure uncreatively named places :)
