I may be quite wrong about this, but it is my understanding that Great Britain was the accepted name for the country at the time, and the UK was not then in use. Nowadays it is more commonly referred to as the United Kingdom. And since the UK was used later on in the quiz, I had to find something that wouldn't fill in both answers at once. Since calling it Great Britain was common at the time I decided to go with that. I hope that makes sense, but I may have to change the question if more people complain.
Your answer quite suffices as an explanation. I'm not even sure if the UK existed at that time. Ireland became part of Britain in 1800; Wales and Scotland did not until the 20th Century. The Boer wars were from 1899 to 1902, so I feel extremely comfortable referring to the UK as Great Britain during the Boer wars.
Not gonna lie, was slightly thrown off by the title and how it says 'countries' but I don't really know what else you would put there anyway (possibly forces or sides?) great quiz either way!
Yeah, that's certainly understandable. All of the ones I listed were "countries" during their time period however (or at least to my knowledge), and I put a caveat in about that. I do see what you mean though, it would be good if I could find a better word. Glad you enjoyed the quiz though!
Sorry about that. At one point in time I had translated this quiz into German, but instead of translating a copy I had accidentally translated the original. I thought I had put the quiz back to normal, but it seems I missed a few.
Why is the UK type-in used for Great Britain instead of United Kingdom? Why does "Orange" not accept for Orange free state? Anyways the quiz got me off guard at some points like the Yugoslavia one and is a great quiz at making you think
There's a set of automatic type-ins that come with certain countries, which is why UK was working for Great Britain (not sure why it didn't work for United Kingdom, though). At any rate, thanks for making those catches! I've updated the quiz
