I'm not sure, in the sense that the old Papal state was occupied during the Italian unification, but the 'current' area was never occupied by Italy (although not 'recognized' until 1929). I wonder if a 1914 JetPunk quiz would have included it in the 'Countries of the World'?

Well, its European territory was the same, which means it was a country in Europe, just not entirely in Europe.

Turkey does have territory in Europe, so I think the Ottoman Empire should be on there. Great quiz!
