Nice! Not many people would realize South Carolina is farther south than California. **p.s. New Mexico is listed out of order**

** Aren't New Mexico and Arizona at their southernmost at their common border? ** i.e. NM is both out of order and wrong Lat?

I think I typed "California" about 4 times - each time in disbelief that it was not accepted.

Remenber that Porto Rico isn't a state of the USA.
+16
Level 72
Feb 2, 2017
Porto Rico isn't a state of anywhere! Porto is a city in Portugal, and Rico is a type of collective criminal prosecution!

But yes, Puerto Rico doesn't count here...

To be fair most Caribbean islands have gone through like 10 colonial overlords anyway and tend to accept spelling their name in whatever language..

I remember seeing a license plate (I think) that had it spelled as LoUiSiAna, where "USA" is capitalized and separated by i's. That's how I remember how to spell it.

Why is California not there? San Diego is more south than the North of Alabama for example
+3

Southernmost points count. Also with this logic, Cheyenne is more south than the north of California etc.
+1
Level 62
Aug 20, 2021
San Diego is further south than the northern parts of Alabama, but Mobile is further south than the northern parts of California. Looks like we have a stalemate. Neither should be on this quiz. (I'm joking of course, Djilas's answer is correct.) Northern points have nothing to do with this quiz.

They technically always have been. They each have their own constitution and are considered a federation, when making up the US.

Germany for the longest time was somewhere around 40 principalities operating as separate states (or countries) before uniting.

Blah blah TL;DR...

Mexican border, Gulf of Mexico, a state with "south" in its name + Hawaii.

(for a bonus point, which state on the list doesn't meet any of these criteria?)
