Question for you. Where are you sourcing your information from? I ask because in this quiz you have Jakarta, Seoul, and Tokyo listed as some of the biggest cities in Asia but Beijing doesn't make the list. In your Biggest Capitals in Asia quiz, you have Beijing listed as being bigger than Jakarta, Seoul, and Tokyo. So I have to wonder, which one is correct? Or are you using different criteria (area v. population) for these quizzes?

Urban areas aren't counted, for example, Guangzhou is most populated city in the world if we count urban areas

guangzhou is the largest metro area/ urban agglomeration in the world by a country mile. The urban area of the pearl river delta has over 65 million people. Its one continuous city that contains guangzhou, shenzhen, hong kong, macau, foshan, dongguan, and more. Its made up of many different municipalities, sure, but if you're looking for the most populated, uninterrupted, densely populated urban centre, its Guangzhou. To divide it based on arbitrary city limits for population sake would be like dividing NYC into its boroughs and saying "manhattan isn't the biggest city in the US! Los Angeles has more people" Ignoring the fact that the city it makes up a part of is clearly the biggest.

Please make clear that Australia includes the area known as Oceania. Auckland is not in Australia, but it is if you count places not part of the continent itself.

On other quizzes I see Guangzhou listed as larger than both Beijing and Shanghai.

In City Proper, Paris has just over 2 million making it the seventh biggest city in Europe.

Rome has 850,000 in City Proper.

Madrid has 2,500,000.

Nice informing you.

Istanbul should be in Europe too, according to your note: "Cities located in two continents will be placed in both".

However, if you wanna get hair-splitty, that's not really fair. If you're listing Istanbul in both continents, then the population should be split according to how many people live on which side. The final results make it look like Istanbul has 14 million people in Asia and another 14 million in Europe.

Remember, you're dealing with cities proper here, so Guangzhou has a population nearly half of Shanghai's.

9 million live in European İstanbul, and the other 5 million on the Asian side (which would bump it off the Asia list).

If we're talking cities proper (which in my view is a silly way of looking at things), then Sydney has 160,000 people, Melbourne has 127,000, Perth has 20,000 and Auckland has 450,000. Only Brisbane gets close to the figure you listed here with a bit over 1 million. Of course there is talk of merging various local governments in Sydney to make them more sustainable. If in so doing the City of Sydney doubles or triples in size, would you say that Sydney (without the qualification of 'City of') has doubled or tripled in size? Of course not - this is why city proper population figures are silly. They tell you nothing about a city except for the particulars of current local government administrative arrangements. Put another way - go to the barrio of Saavedra, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. Look around on Google Maps. Then go to Florida Oeste, a few hundred metres away in the Province of Buenos Aires. Apart from crossing a freeway, absolutely nothing has changed.
