Interesting but for some I wonder ..... Does all of Guinea Bissau speak Portuguese as a first language or as L1? Also in Canada, 400,000 people list Italian as their first language. Granted, I'm not sure how L1 speakers are classified but surely first language or mother tongue should count.

After flciking around articles, Wikipedia says that there are at least 224,000 German L1 speakers in Italy (in South Tyrol), and 100,000 German L1 speakers in Poland. Although these numbers are conflicting, it says there are 3million German speakers in Brazil , 1.5million in the USA, 400,000 in Argentina, 79,000 in Australia, 9,000 im Belize, 160,000 in Bolivia, 200,000 in Israel (don't know how much this overlaps Yiddish though), 22,500 in Namibia, 36,000 in New Zealand, 166,000 in Paraguay, 12,000 in South Africa and 28,000 in Uruguay, in many forms of dialect.
