Mystery Countries Commonality Puzzle #1

We have two countries in mind. There are 10 categories on the left. Start by guessing random countries - if your guess has a commonality with either of the mystery countries, you'll receive a check. Your goal is to find countries that share each characteristic with any of the mysteries, then deduce the unknown countries based on that. Have fun!
Use the textbox to record your answer and notes to help you solve the puzzle
# = number of possible answers of that commonality for both of the mystery countries
Commonality = shared characteristic between the # of countries and either of the mystery countries

To be honest I didn't understand much what was going on but I somehow got the two answers. I think a little better explanation would be appreciated by the users :)

OK, that's what we were expecting. Is there anything specifically you were confused by?

nice, lots of innovations! but after having filled in some ticks it becomes difficult to gather information. Any thoughts on changing the answers to ✓1 ✓2 ✓3 etc so that for example you type Kenya and press enter you can see which categories it fits even though they might have been guessed already?

Yes, that's why we designed the textbox for notes. Can you explain further about the numbered answers? You have a great point but I don't understand the logistics behind it :)

I got 11 out of 12 first try just by typing random countries. Working it out properly was beyond my poor little brain's capabilities!

What do you mean by shared border, and why did I get a tick for Brazil?

Shared border means that the country (Italy) and your guess (Brazil) both share a border (in this case, France).
