I am Indonesian and I am pretty sure Sumatra island is not really a place commonly visited by tourist.

Most of the Swedes and Germans who died were in Thailand, a few in Sri Lanka.

Good quiz although I thought the 'small print' meant that some of the Asian countries victims were from overseas, not that we had to name the home countries of some victims.

I was in Sri Lanka in January 2005, about three weeks afterwards, as a part of the massive volunteer relief effort, and the scale of destruction was beyond belief. On a day off I travelled to the wreck of the train that was swept off the tracks, drowning nearly all of the 1000-plus passengers. The carriages had just been thrown all over the place, but mercifully all the bodies had already been removed by then. Nearby some of the railway had been somehow picked up and corkscrewed, twisting around and around.

I was in the Maldives then. My first thought was that all the fishermen would be dead - but that's not how tsunamis work. I remember seeing an international report describing the death and destruction, country-by-country. Beside the Maldives it said: only coastal areas affected. Of course, there probably isn't a place in the whole country more than a kilometer from the sea. On the weird side, a couple of months or so later, Bush, Sr. and Clinton showed up. One of the girls from my house was supposed to give Clinton a bouquet when he arrived, but got mixed up about which one he was.

No, Somalia was just hit by the tsunami. The epicentre was in the Indian Ocean.

Being from Sweden I can tell what a tragedy it was for us. Hundreds of tourists gone missing and died. It was all over the news and Christmas that year was a sad event. I know of people who were in Thailand and some of them did not survive. It took Thailand and other nations years to overcome. What a horrible thing that happened to South East Asia and may it never happen again.

After trying USA, Australia, UK, Japan and China (though I guess this was before their big disposable income days) I gave up on trying any more "tourist" countries.

This quiz is fine. The title, though, is misleading. To say that Sweden and Germany were "more affected by the tsunami" than the Maldives, for example, isn't true.

I feel like there should probably be an asterisk beside Germany and Sweden to specify that their citizens died while on holiday in the affected regions rather than in Germany and Sweden.

I think that the word "residents" is a little unclear. It implies that the people were currently located in said country. I don't know if it's accurate, but "citizens" would be a little more helpful.
