Very interesting! I'm wondering why UK is missing. First thought of the war, but there are several war-torn countries here.

West Germany was backed by the US, and as history has shown American allies tend to get huge amount of money when they are in a strategic place, such as next to the Iron Curtain. Not sure about Italy, however.
