Southern Alberta Cities on the Map

Southern Alberta is a region of Alberta with a distinct identity and geography, from the mountains of the Crowsnest Pass to the Blackfoot petroglyphs of Writing-on-Stone, and from badlands spotted with dinosaur fossils to the Cypress hills in the southeast.

There are 57 cities, towns and villages in the region, how many can you name?

One of the villages was downgraded to a hamlet in 2013. It really doesn't matter a whole lot but I'll make a note which one in the comments :)

Cereal was downgraded into a Hamlet, but I'm not going to be a dictator and have it removed this time--it isn't terribly important for the purposes of this quiz :)

Oh and this will be included as part of a blog I'm doing... so stay tuned!

Ohhhh, love this map! And I don't recognize any of these names besides Lethbridge (which I only recognized from your user profile). Most Americans (myself included) have a tendency to just broadly divide Canada into the "English" section (and even then we consider that an extension of US culture) and the "French" section, without considering the distinct sub-cultures/regions of Canada much. I'd love to learn more about the regional identities of Canada, so I'm very much looking forward to this blog :)

Thank you! One of the things I've come to realise is just how regionalised Canada is. Alberta is probably much more similar to Montana than it is to (English-speaking) Atlantic Canada, for example. I am looking forward to making the blog, it will be a lot of fun!

We may be regionalised but at least you can find similar enough sounding Canadian accents in just about any corner of the country too :D

Dug, Overtired, Jiao, IAB. These are who needs all quizzes featured, or at least with 10 nominations. Is a bad thing I write Lethbridge and give up lol? And how become the city's name Medicine Hat!?!?

AND LOOK AT THAT AREAS OF CITIES, AND LETTERS ON THE HIGHWAYS! OMG, you impress us everyday. But... Color the map by Guessing most populous cities when? (I know I wrote something wrong lol) I just can’t do that with perfection, and I’m full of work pendent on JetPunk. I need to continue two series (one blog and four quizzes), draw an SVG for “Build the National Monument by Guessing Cities”, and many blog ideas are coming now, so... lol

Thank you! Actually there are some high quality maps available online of Albertan and British Columbian areas without copyright so it isn't so hard to add detail. Medicine Hat comes from an Indigenous Blackfoot name saamis but the translation is awkward since the original word describes the hat worn by medicine men.

Good luck with your quizzes :)

Strange but nice etymology lol! Actually, I have another blog series in collaboration, so, more work :)
