Nevermind, it seems I was wrong anyway. The Caucasus Mountains extend into southern Russia, meaning that although parts of northern, inland Georgia can be classified as European the entire coastline is definitely Asian.
Excellent! One small suggestion: give borders alternating colours so you can see the different countries forming the coastline. Or actually even better would be if eg France's coastlines have the same colour etc
Cheers! I do quite like that idea, although I cannot implement it now, as the borders are coloured in altogether, based on whether or not the answer is correct (rather than individually through their ID).
I see. if I remember correctly I managed to get around this problem this way: have the 'coloured borders' always visible but covered by 'white borders' which correspond to answers and become invisible when guessed - see this quiz
Thanks to the Curonian and Vistula spits, the coastline goes Lithuania / Russia / Lithuania / Russia / Poland / Russia / Poland (although this requires passing through two lagoons).
Crimea is part of Ukraine not Russia. Russia is illegally occupying it. A significant majority of the world's countries have made it clear that they recognise that Crimea is a part of Ukraine.
Russia currently has control over the Crimean peninsula (as well as de facto control over parts of Eastern Ukraine). I am still not sure where Jetpunk gets their maps from, but the source seems to value depicting actual control over specific regions, rather than honouring sentiments (this goes for the Crimean situation as well as the border dispute in Kashmir, among other minor disputes). I agree with this, to the point in which I have drawn dotted lines to represent other territories such as Abkhazia or North Cyprus which are outside of the authority of the countries which the international community agrees as controlling said territory.
That being said, if you wish you can simply type 'Ukraine' three times to complete its coastline on the Black Sea. You are never forced to type 'Russia' in order to complete Crimea.
sorry bro but in crimea russian is spoken and russian flags are flown. people wanted to be russian, thats a fact. before stalin arbitrarily changed the border it was russian. sorry bro i am not even russian but its a fact.
Hey Jiaozira, probably shouldn't ask it here, but is it possible if I could make a series of quizzes similar to the above? I would love to make more map quizzes of such :D
Fun! Suggestion: in the directions make it clear that we're going counterclockwise. Maybe that was obvious to everyone else, but it took me a moment to catch on to that.
I have added to the description. I want all of my quizzes to be as straighfowards as possible, so comments like this are very helpful to me. Thank you :)
It would also be helpful to specify how you're dividing Europe and Asia. No matter what you decide, people will complain - but most cartographers draw the line north of Georgia and Azerbaijan, through the Caspian Sea, and include a small chunk of westernmost Kazakhstan.
Perhaps I will solve this with a caviat specifying the Caspian Sea is considered a lake here. I do agree that the Northeastern bit of Kazakhstan is European though I hope any other definition will be clear to people when the quiz stops at Russia (rather than Georgia, that is).
I'm glad you think so! It can take a moment to get going on these sorts of quizzes, so I hope I've given enough time for people to find their bearings.
The Dutch coastline really looks decidedly odd to me. Noord Holland, in particular, seems to have been shaved completely off the continent. I can find Europe outline images on Google that look exactly like the map that's been used here. But I can also find lots and lots of better ones...
Gibraltar under control of the United Kingdom (and therefore it is also a type-in). I believe that all territories should be included by default on a quiz like this, unless otherwise specified, as they are part of the overall coastline.
Well, it is the same as both the Europe map and the World map here on Jetpunk. I should add that my decision not to go and edit the map is not influenced by personal motives or feelings.
Very difficult quiz. Would be helpful if one of the answers in the middle was given, as a sort of anchor to start from if you get stuck at the start bit and the end bit imo?
Thank you for the kind words. I wanted a quiz that was both accessible yet more than simply 'name the countries on the map'. I hope I found that middle ground!
Wow, great Quiz! You rarely can spot a quiz like that! Just one question: how do you nominate because i would want to nominate this quiz. I really recomend it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Now go and check out my super hard flag quiz
Please change this to counterclockwise
