Trace the Coast of Europe with a Map

Starting from the top right corner, trace the outline of the European continent anticlockwise by correctly naming each country along the way.
External territories and micronations are included!
We are considering the Caspian Sea to be a lake, and therefore irrelevant to this quiz

Thanks to the Curonian and Vistula spits, the coastline goes Lithuania / Russia / Lithuania / Russia / Poland / Russia / Poland (although this requires passing through two lagoons).

I'm not planning on including that thus far, both for simplicity's sake and also I'm not sure where to draw the line on what constitutes a coastline.

Crimea is part of Ukraine not Russia. Russia is illegally occupying it. A significant majority of the world's countries have made it clear that they recognise that Crimea is a part of Ukraine.
+4
Level 70
Dec 28, 2020
Russia currently has control over the Crimean peninsula (as well as de facto control over parts of Eastern Ukraine). I am still not sure where Jetpunk gets their maps from, but the source seems to value depicting actual control over specific regions, rather than honouring sentiments (this goes for the Crimean situation as well as the border dispute in Kashmir, among other minor disputes). I agree with this, to the point in which I have drawn dotted lines to represent other territories such as Abkhazia or North Cyprus which are outside of the authority of the countries which the international community agrees as controlling said territory.

Level 70

That being said, if you wish you can simply type 'Ukraine' three times to complete its coastline on the Black Sea. You are never forced to type 'Russia' in order to complete Crimea.

it is not compliant with the international law though.

With that reasoning Nazi Germany's annexation of the "Sudetenland/Czechoslovakia" would have been ok, too since mostly Germans were living there and they wanted to become part of the German Reich.

This is really not how it works.

+12
Level 64

That's not to mention that the "people wanted to be Russian" thing was determined through an illegally organised referendum where Russian military personel with loaded rifles stood outside each polling station. Hardly the ideal setup for a true representation of people's preferences.

funny thing that I met a girl from Crimea when I lived in Poland and she says russians are occupying her homeland and she is saving money to relocate her mother to Poland as well... maybe that's the reason why people speak russian there and russian flags are seen, because normal people ran away from aggressors

It would also be helpful to specify how you're dividing Europe and Asia. No matter what you decide, people will complain - but most cartographers draw the line north of Georgia and Azerbaijan, through the Caspian Sea, and include a small chunk of westernmost Kazakhstan.
+3
Level 70
Jan 25, 2021
Perhaps I will solve this with a caviat specifying the Caspian Sea is considered a lake here. I do agree that the Northeastern bit of Kazakhstan is European though I hope any other definition will be clear to people when the quiz stops at Russia (rather than Georgia, that is).

The Dutch coastline really looks decidedly odd to me. Noord Holland, in particular, seems to have been shaved completely off the continent. I can find Europe outline images on Google that look exactly like the map that's been used here. But I can also find lots and lots of better ones...

Gibraltar under control of the United Kingdom (and therefore it is also a type-in). I believe that all territories should be included by default on a quiz like this, unless otherwise specified, as they are part of the overall coastline.

How can you not believe it? International recognition is never the primary factor at play on Jetpunk, otherwise Palestine would be considered a country on a majority of the quizzes and Taiwan excluded.
