How on EARTH is Somalia not on here? Even if you show me a link I'm not 100 percent sure I'd be convinced.

It's hard to calculate a country's GDP per capita if said country hasn't had a functional government in over two decades, and it's hard for independent organizations to investigate in Somalia without putting their employees at serious risk. But if I had to guess it's probably in the top 5.

Actually that does make sense. But aren't Congo and South Sudan also failed states?

Yes, they are. Also CAR. But at least there was some sort of government in the near past and it is possible to estimate the loses/gains they made.

There are no data also for North Korea, which is certainly at the top, because there is everything secret. It is the extreme ať the opposite corner. Also most probably missing one is Venezuela, because it is difficult to estimate the very recent loses. Certainly it is not at the top, but it hard to imagine, they are still richer than Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, Djibouti etc.

Yeah, I couldn't believe Somalia wasn't listed, but as you said, if you can't quantify HOW poor they are (no census data, no tax data, no federal government, only local municipalities) I guess that explains why. But they could at least get an honorable mention...

I think Syria and Somalia could be separately listed out to avoid any argument on the availability data issue. Anyone with basic understand of politics will understand that even without concrete data Syria and Somalia must belong to the category of poorest countries.

It is in a civil war, right?

You know, the unit for values measured by purchasing power parity (PPP) is international dollars (Int$), not USD.
