The Modern Pentathlon was developed by Pierre de Cubertin, the founder of the modern Olympics, designed to showcase the skills of a soldier: Fencing, Shooting, Swimming, Running and Horsemanship (Jumping). First introduced in the 1912 games, the women's event was added in 2000.
