Nice job! The only answer I'd take issue with is that Abel Tasman's sighting, and non-landing, of NZ in 1642 is not considered in NZ to have been embarrassing.

Thanks. I agree, the Abel Tasman one is a bit of a stretch and is probably not considered embarrassing by most New Zealanders. However, it is interesting that he never landed on a landmass which was believed by many to be part of the Southern Continent (Terra Australis) that many of these explorers were looking for. If you read about his encounters with the local Māori, my clue probably makes a bit more sense. I might alter it.
