Even though Russia prices more than twice as much wheat?

@LoneStar For being more than 28 times larger, a bit more than twice as much wheat isn't that much.

Eastern Europe? It's the breadbasket of the world.

Russia may produce more, but since it has a much larger population it needs to retain more for its own use, the same applys to all the top producers. Its only when you get to Ukraine that you have a substantial surplus that can be exported.

Good quiz, managed to get them OK, I was surprised at France having such a large tonnage. 50% more again than Australia.

I guess Australia produces wheat for its own needs, and there are almost three times less Australians than French. Furthermore, you won't grow wheat in the outback, the favorable region is rather small. I'm surprised Australia made the list at all...

Because of its relatively low population, Australia is actually one of the world's largest exporters of wheat...dependant on the season

This was based on 2020 data for which Australia had a significantly reduced crop due to drought conditions. The 2021 crop was about 36mil tonnes, so would place them about the middle of this list.

People of Pakistan eat lots of wheat and also produce lots of wheat

Interesting to see how developed countries with a very small percentage of their population in the agricultural sector produce much more output than developing countries with roughly the population.

This must be due to difference in efficiency (e.g. mechanisation).

Mechanization is a factor, of course, but you can't derive that conclusion from this list. Would the U.S.'s large population and tiny coffee production necessarily signify low efficiency relative to Papua New Guinea's?

I was surprised to hear that French production is so much higher than Germany's. But sure, it can be very rural.
