Truman Capote, the author of the original book, hated Hepburn in the role and said he had wanted Monroe to do it. I've read the book and don't think either one of them really fits the role. I would have cast Jean Seaberg.

I think 'Orangey' the cat played the best part. Hepburn was made out of cardboard. Monroe would have been better just playing herself.

I don't agree with you, I think Audrey managed the part of Holly just perfectly. Hepburn, far more than Monroe, is indelibly associated with the transformative Cinderella makeover in her films. The fact that Audrey, whom we often associate to frail and young feminine characters, plays this chic and beaming character just perfectly really shows what a great actress she was.

Don't get me wrong, I love Marilyn. But I would never admit that anyone else could have played the role better than Audrey did, even though Capote wrote the book having Marilyn in mind.

Could they seriously have ditched Mickey Rooney or his atrociously bad portrayal of a goofy Japanese character?

At least George Pepoard later headed The A-Team with Mr. T. Much better casting.
