Briefly forgot about the Americas side of the Pacific, and once AGAIN completely forgot the Philippines. I don't know why I never remember that place.

For me it is the Korea's. I have no clue why. I almost always miss them on the Empty Map quiz.

The only reason I got them now, was because I started thinking about what I always forget when I read this comment

Philippines, Taiwan and Cyprus are my main issues, but I often miss a dumb one or two. This time I almost missed Peru. I was following the Pacific coast down the Americas and for some reason my brain was like, "Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Chile"

I also often forget about Turkey. My neighbors are turkish and they are very nice people, why do I keep forgetting their former homeland?

I always forget because as I scan through the map in my head, I go through the middle east, eastern europe, russia, and the stan countries, and I don't really consider Turkey to be any of those, they are just right in the middle, so I always forget Turkey

And Burkina Faso, but that has nothing to do with this quiz.

Me too on Philippines. They always evade my brain's map. I think I don't categorize them with East Asia (china, Japan, Taiwan, Koreas), and not with the Indochina peninsula countries, and also not with the southern island countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore etc. I really should be grouping with Indonesia and friends.

India borders the Indian ocean, specifically the Arabian, Laccadive, Andaman, and the Bay of Bengal, but not the Pacific. Indonesia shields the Pacific and in between Indonesian Islands, Cape York, and the Malacca Strait are the endpoints for the Pacific.

I’ve always dreamed of sunbathing on a Thai beach in the, er, Pacific Ocean? Hang on a minute! I have made thirteen circumnavigations of the world, and the previous sentence is simply preposterous. Whatever logic you are using fails. As all seas in the world are physically connected to all other seas, ocean boundaries as such are a human creation. They are arbitrary, but work best when they accurately reflect the geographical reality. Saying Thailand borders the Pacific would be like saying Montenegro borders the Atlantic.

Thailand borders the Andaman Sea to the West, and the Gulf of Thailand to the South and East. The latter is considered a part of the South China Sea, which itself borders the Pacific Ocean.

What next? Ukraine having a coast on the Mediterranean? Russia on the North Sea?
