Why is Ulaan Baatar not a valid answer to the orange category?

Ulaanbaatar is one word on JetPunk, as well as on Wikipedia

How am I just now painfully realizing this? When the heck did this change?

As long as I can remember it has been one word, which extends to at least 2016 :)

Here is a link to the world capitals quiz in July 2018 which shows Ulaanbaatar as a single word answer, for example.

I remember learning it as Ulan Bator, and in Spanish it's still written like that.

Nice quiz - it seemed easier than some others in the series but maybe I just got lucky :)

Then why do other Jet Punk puzzles accept Ulan Baatar?

Level 68
Feb 24, 2022
We generally accept some common old names on quizzes as "type-ins", this way users can get credit for them. However, inherently with category elimination you can't accept old (and now incorrect) spellings when the original doesn't work.

For example, Macedonia is still accepted for North Macedonia, and Astana is still accepted for Nur-Sultan, but you can't have Nur-Sultan as a valid answer to "starts with A", because that's factually incorrect.

Due to the confusion some have had, I have changed the final clue in Orange so that the old spelling of "Ulan Bator" no longer works as an answer.

jetpunk doesn't care about spacing, so "democraticrepublicofthecongo" would be accepted as well as "d e m o c r a t i c r e p u b l i c o f t h e c o n g o"

I tried every possible spelling for Ulaan Baatar! It's only one word now? Looked it up: previously anglicized as Ulan Bator.

In other quizzes Ulan Bator is an acceptable answer. So, it should be for this quiz too.
