Whoa. That was easier than I thought. Had over a minute left even. Getting into the right ballpark is easy by using rounded numbers and then it's just a matter of 2-3 guesses to get the 2nd digit of an answer. Like 407/11 can be reduced to 400/10 and that's 40, so the original problem is slightly under. 39? 38? 37!
I was shocked to see in the comments that people found it was easy, I'm usually good at this stuff, but only did it at the second attempt with one second left - relieved to see that apparently they had one more minute than me.
It is definitely frustrating when you can see that your brain just doesn't work as quickly as it used to. You labor for things that used to just pop right into your head, especially with math problems. At least, that's what I've found. I have a greater appreciation/empathy for what elderly people silently cope with.
I've also come to the realization that "old people" aren't old people. They're young people that time happened to.
This is making me think as well. I am under 13 right now, and I do a lot of quick division and the likes in school and had 16 seconds remaining on my first shot. I do "Two Minute Tables" everyday, which is doing your division tables for two minutes, which has improved them and therefore all my division and multiplication. (I hope to get to 120(one sum per minute on those tables soon. Best is 108 atm. wish me luck ;)
I have relatively decent basic math skills but I find this really difficult on a screen because I'm so used to doing it by hand. Are other people using a pencil and paper and then writing in the answers? I haven't done that but I bet I would get a much better score if I did!
I dont think you will get a better score, it would take twice as much time. So the few answers you might gain, are lost in the overall halving of your score.
I had only 448/14 left with 5 seconds remaining. I thought it would be over 10, over 20 and probably over 30 out of intuition, but had to guess something fast and hadn't made my mind up yet. Guessed 32 out of intuition and it was right! I've never been happier with a guess on this website
Everyone is using rounding (which may be quicker) but I always do short division in my head. See how many times it goes into the first number (or numbers depending how many places), find remainder, add in front of last number and you have your answer. Easier than finding a rough and guessing more
Yeah same! Never really liked rounding and thought it was inaccurate when I was small. Now I just do it all like short division. It also helped that I knew there were no decimal points or remainders
If you'd like to go even faster, there's a 30 Second variant also!
I've also come to the realization that "old people" aren't old people. They're young people that time happened to.
Thanks :)
