Another amazing quiz from Stewart, and one of my new personal favorites. Extremely fun, although i did do quite poorly lol (the J row is harder than it looks!)

Loved it!! Loving this series of quizzes Stewart! Only got 90% so far which shows I’m not a great scrabble player .. thank you for all your work!

Edit-one idea if you have the inclination-maybe in the solutions area, add in the possible answers for the ones where there are only 5 or less?

That's a good idea, I think I'll try to add 1 example for each then (the most common as I have done for other quizzes). It would help people learn the ones they're missing!

Fun fact: By just typing the words in the title, description, and caveats and their plurals, you can get 68! Included numbers spelt out ('fours', 'fives', 'seven') and plural of homonyms of the word ('tries' from the verb 'try').

This goes without saying but this is an amazing quiz! I'm glad to see it was recently spotlighted and I nominated it! This is a great series!

That is superb, nominated with ease.

Can i just request though, it might be better with the A-Z column and row on all four sides of the grid rather than two so it's easier to read?

Great quiz! I am curious though, how did you design a quiz to have multiple answer boxes in each row and column?
+2
Level 68
Apr 24, 2022
In Step 4 of text quizzes, you can change the design mode to "Manual" at the top and then add / remove rows and columns on the right. Then, select a cell, and in the "Manual Cell Options" at the top, change the cell type to "Answer" and choose the one you want :)

Normally the limit is 10 columns per block, but here I used some special tricks to make it appear as though there's more columns :)

I might look into this! 3 letters is actually difficult because you only get 2 letters each time you enter a word. So a lot more words are needed to complete it :)

That was fun. I felt a little guilty playing 'xerox' and 'zeros', but after googling, I guess I shouldn't. I only recognized 2 of the 15 X-words, though there are many more common Z-words.

What strategies are people using?

Just familiarity & memorization through playing lots of word games?

Is it possible to be familiar enough with the rules of English spelling, to 'predict' what will be a word, when the quiz also tells you which letter-combinations exist?

For anyone interested, the site 'bestwordlist' seems to be an easy way of looking up 5-letter words starting with a letter.

Thank you.

And fyi we blocked that quiz and your other top quiz because you played them both thousands of times. Inflating your takes is strictly against JetPunk etiquette, and since you're still doing it, consider this an official warning before we hide your account. It is unfair to take your own quizzes thousands of times (getting 1 answer each time), making it appear as if your quizzes are "popular", when in fact all you have done is cheated.

I love this quiz and have taken it a number of times, Still have trouble with J, X, and K.

I have often wondered, when checking on my own quizzes, if there might be people taking their own quizzes, as that would render my "progress" (and potentially all of the published results) meaningless! I have created 29 quizzes and have been pleased with the response considering my rather unpoplular topics- classical music, Panama, and Eleanor of Aquitaine. (I did take one of my own after my very first entry. I just had to see if this really and truly was going to work!) The only thing that is disappointing is that people too rarely leave comments. Anyway, I'm relieved to know that this kind of thing is monitored.

Thanks for all your great quizzes.

Thanks for the feedback! Taking your own quizzes is not a problem, but "spam taking" them, just to inflate takes, is not.

The stats on a quiz are only on a user's first take anyway, so it will never ruin stats.

I take an agriculture class and my favourite 5 letter word is xylem which is a tissue in a plant that does something with water... I cannot really remember but it deletes nutrients up from the radicle/rhizome ( root ) and helps form the shape of the stem.

In other words I like the word because of the unique choice of letters

This quiz drove me nuts after my first try was 78%! So offline, I got the list down to 280 words and then was able to get 100% and the time down to 9:46 w/o pauses! My longest lists at thirteen words are for K and P - shortest lists are for E, G and O at nine words (not counting X which is only eight words). I'm mentally exhausted and never going to try this quiz again. Happy Holidays everyone!
