For the smaller countries, an arrow or ring may appear to guide you.
Great, thanks a lot! Two suggestions: maybe it would be 'fair' to add a few parallels (equators and tropics?) and/or meridians; for the tiny Caribbean countries it would be nice to have a magnifying lens that shows the space so you don't have to go through guessing them all every time (I don't even know how that could be done). Thanks again, very enjoyable!
It is actually the same map, but with a few modifications to allow the countries to maximise the space available. Such as removing the top of Canada and Greenland, shrinking the Atlantic Ocean, and cutting off a bit of Alaska. It seemed to help especially with the smaller countries to make them just a tad more visible without the map looking drastically different.
This was thoroughly enjoyable. I imagine only serious nerds are taking it, and answer stats suggest that's true: 36 takes so far, with 65% getting them all right.
I ended up being very fast- nearly 18 minutes left, would be interested to know the average of those that finish. Although obviously the geographic location is a big clue, without the others to reference, I found that shape recognition is huge, something that I think I'm good at, even with the smaller/less distinctive countries. I found small countries in Europe/Balkans most difficult, even more than island states.
It would also be nice if at the end of the quiz - whichever way it has finished - the entire map is revealed showing what you have achieved, i.e. which countries you have guessed and which are still missing. It would be a good learning factor. Don't know if this can be done at all, just an idea.
No matter how many times I typed Samoa, it wasn't accepted. Pointlessly typed every country in Oceania three times, Samoa a few more times, and had to give up.
And yet, the second attempt worked and I got 100%. It was definitely Samoa that wouldn't take on the first attempt. Even if it wasn't, I tried every country in Oceania multiple times.
That was challenging, especially the Antilles and Oceania. And I don't know why I was confused about Africa so many times, but I got so disoriented there, thinking it was a country in West Africa, but it was actually in central Africa. Still I got them all. Excellent quiz!

After some complicated CSS, I found a way to have all answers hide when guessed, but show up post game!
